Ruby passed away peacefully in her San Francisco home in the early morning hours of March 3, 2026 at age 94.
She is survived by five loving sons and daughters: Robin Woo, Rubin Woo (wife Sandra), Roxane Woo, Ricky Woo, and Rhonda Woo (husband Garner Weng). During the last six years of her life, Ruby’s sons and daughters provided daily, round-the-clock care, surrounding her with love. She is also survived by two grandchildren: Tyler Weng and Ryan Weng.
Born in San Francisco, Ruby was brought up by loving and beloved parents. Her mother, Lee Shee Chin (1892 – 1987), served as a “Rosie the Riveter” during WWII. Her father, Kim Chin (1886 – 1947), was employed as a chef.
Her involvement with church activities as a young girl and throughout her teenage years introduced her to Theater Arts, which became a lasting passion. She later committed her talents in service of Chinatown’s Square and Circle social club, which supported various charities through fundraising.
Ruby graduated from San Francisco’s Polytechnic High School. While in high school, she secured parttime employment with Azevedo Jewelers. Her job functions included traveling cross-city as a courier for precious gems and jewelry, taking on responsibilities considered extraordinary for a teenager. Later, she went on to graduate from IBM’s keypunch training program, which launched her career in data entry.
Ruby’s ultimate passion was fulfilled in Motherhood. She devoted a lifetime of providing loving care and attention to the needs of her family and she will always be remembered as the Archetypal Nurturing Mother.
