Rudy Alterio, Sr.

Rudy Alterio, Sr. passed away peacefully at home on February 17, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Rudy was born on October 27, 1934 in Navelli, Aquila, Italy to Berardino and Angela (Giampietri) Alterio. He is survived by his wife of 66 years Jean (Goldrick), son Rudy and wife Nancy (Sullivan) Alterio, Jr., son Richard (Ricky) and wife Kara (Shanahan) Alterio, daughter Gina and husband Mario Recupero. Cherished grandfather of Alicia Alterio and husband Samuel Suorsa, Rudy and Kathleen (Donahoe) Alterio, III, Julia (Recupero) and husband Jeffery Schnebelen, Keely Alterio, Nick Recupero, Brynna Alterio, and Rowan Alterio. Great-grandfather of Matti Suorsa, Peter Suorsa, Rudy Alterio, IV, and Frederick Alterio.

Rudy landed in Canada by himself at the age of 16 with only a dollar in his pocket. As a young adult Rudy attended hairdressing school where he met Jean, whom he married in 1960.

As hairdressers, Rudy and Jean moved to the U.S. eventually buying their first home in Stoughton, Massachusetts where they raised their three children. After years of working as a hairdresser, Rudy and Jean took ownership of Stanney's Restaurant in 1973 to continue the proud tradition of serving good food, made with care, in a place that feels like home. Rudy was more than just a boss, he was a friend, mentor, and someone who genuinely cared about the people he worked alongside.

Over the years, Rudy saw generations of families come through the doors—kids enjoying their first ice cream cone, friends catching up over breakfast, neighbors sharing a cup of coffee at the counter. Rudy always knew he owed Stanney's success to the incredible customers and staff who have supported him through the years. Stanney's was recognized by the Holbrook Historical Society and inducted into the Holbrook Hall of Fame in 2025.
Rudy's entrepreneurship continued with the opening of NAPA Auto Parts of Holbrook in 1993. Rudy had a love for cars, especially Cadillacs, and enjoyed delivering auto parts to the garages around town. Rudy was always one to converse with customers and provide them with a lending hand. Throughout the years, Rudy worked alongside his wife, children and several of his grandchildren who continue the tradition today at Stanney's and NAPA.

In his spare time, Rudy enjoyed watching wrestling and the Patriots and tending to his many plants. One of his greatest joys was becoming "Grampy" and "Great Grampy" and seeing the many accomplishments of his grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held at the Hurley Currie Funeral Home, 127 So. Franklin St. (Rt. 37), Holbrook on Monday, February 23rd from 10am-12pm followed by a service at 12pm. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment Union Cemetery, Holbrook.
