Rudy Gregory Bonefas, age 69, passed away suddenly and peacefully in his sleep on December 20, 2025. He was born on October 9, 1956, and lived a life defined by curiosity, humor, and deep devotion to his family.
Rudy was the beloved husband of Sally Bonefas, and a proud father to Matthew Venditto and his wife, Diana. His greatest joy in life was being “Opa” to Cadence, Addie, and Beckett Venditto, who were the center of his world. He is also survived by his sisters, Inge Zamora (Jerry) and Petra Stambaugh (Bob).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Thilde Bonefas.
Rudy earned a Bachelor’s degree in Physics and a Master’s Degree in Computer Science, and spent his career as a software engineer, bestowing upon himself the title “Software Poet Laureate.” Even after retirement, his mind never slowed, and his love of learning never faded.
Above all else, Rudy’s passion was his grandchildren. He devoted countless hours to homeschooling them in science, sharing his knowledge with patience, enthusiasm, and joy. He cherished every moment spent with them: making learning an adventure filled with laughter (Fun-pa), playing football and “Three Fish in a Pot” (Slo-pa), and chauffeuring them to their various activities (Chau-pa).
Rudy loved to read and travel, had a legendary sense of humor, a somewhat-biting sarcasm, and an uncanny ability to make anything fun. His favorite sayings, “RTFM!” and “I can’t hear you, Bert! I’ve got a banana in my ear!” will forever bring smiles to his loved ones’ faces, even in times of sadness.
Rudy will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, cherished Opa, brilliant mind, and a man whose laughter and warmth left a lasting mark on everyone he met. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
