Ruth Elaine Gabosch, 96, of Rocklin, CA died peacefully November 27, 2025.

Elaine was born March 20, 1929 to Hazel Allen Rodgers (1906-1969) and Elza Byron Rodgers (1904-1941) in Lincoln, Nebraska, her parents' home state. In 1940, Hazel married Roy T. High (1901-1989) also of Nebraska, who loved Elaine as his own daughter until his death. The Highs spent the war years in Balboa, Canal Zone, Panama where Elaine attended Balboa High School and Canal Zone Junior College, where she was editor of the school paper.

Elaine returned to the states and attended Northwestern University where she met her husband of 22 years. They settled in Smithtown, New York where they raised two children. With a deep devotion to her family's well-being, she created a haven of comfort and belonging.

In 1974, Elaine started a new life in California with her children and made it her home for 51 years. She worked for the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture as a market news reporter in San Francisco for 20 years. She retired to Grass Valley where she made new friends, volunteered with the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the Women's Health Initiative, and served as president of her condominium board. She lived her last 20 years in a senior community in Rocklin, where she will be missed.

A lover of reading and watching science fiction, she wrote numerous manuscripts for short stories and novels in that genre. A few years ago, to her delight, her children privately published one of her manuscripts from the early 1980s about a distant planet and a woman named Tollie who led an army that saved two planets—and who was not unlike Elaine in personality and intelligence.

She is survived by her loving son Stephen Gabosch and devoted daughter Cydney Holley. Elaine will be inurned at Rocklin Cemetery, Rocklin.
