Ruth Elizabeth Jones

Ruth Elizabeth (Morehouse) Jones, 79, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 27th, in Portland, Oregon. Born on October 28th, 1946, in Arcata, California, Ruth spent most of her life in Oregon and Northern California, building a home and community rooted in love, faith, and service.
Ruth was a graduate of Humboldt State University, where she met her husband, Bill Jones. They were married for 45 years until his passing in 2014.

She is survived by her children Jeff Jones, Elizabeth Jensen, and Tim Jones; her sister Jean Kuhl; her brother-in-law Larry Jones and her six cherished grandchildren: Haylee, Dakota, Syriana, Asta, William, and Benjamin. She also leaves behind her beloved son-in-law Thomas Jensen and daughter-in-law Katrina Jones.

A devoted mother, and elementary school librarian, Ruth found joy in nurturing children's curiosity and love of learning. She carried that same spirit into her volunteer work at the Oregon Food Bank, where her compassion and steady presence were felt by many.

Ruth loved music, the outdoors, gardening, dogs, good books, and—most of all—people. Her deep faith guided her life, and her church families were a constant source of connection and purpose. She served as a deacon and elder and lived her faith through quiet service, kindness, and generosity. Those who knew her will remember her as selfless, patient, and endlessly giving.

A memorial service honoring Ruth's life will be held on January 24th, 2026 at 3:00 PM at Smith Memorial Presbyterian Church, 2420 Fairview Ave, Fairview, OR.

Ruth's gentle presence will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, faith, and kindness lives on in all who had the good fortune to know her.
