Samatha Jo Cannon, lovingly known as "Sammy," passed away on February 20, 2026, in Birmingham, Alabama, at the age of 39. Born Samantha Jo Wood on March 27, 1986, in Owatonna, Minnesota, Sammy brought light and joy to all who knew her.
A graduate of Golden Gate Christian Academy in 2004, Sammy was a dedicated and hardworking individual who held various roles throughout her career. She worked at Wendy's in Greenville, Tennessee; Waffle House in Dublin, Georgia; American Inn; C Pack; and King and Prince Seafood. Her work ethic and commitment were evident in every position she held.
Sammy was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. She was a great listener with a kind heart who always sought to help others in their times of need. Her family remembers her as a loving mother to John Terry Robinson and a wonderful daughter to Terry Holmes and Karen Holmes. She will also be deeply missed by her mother-in-law Judy Gomez.
Sammy’s family includes her brothers Ricky Jr. Greene, Johnnie Gomez, Dennis Kazar, and Glenn Kazar; her sisters Nikita Sills, Cynthia Goad, Amy, and Tanya; her daughters Kayla, Stella, Marieann, Destiny, Sahale, Grace; her son Daniel; and numerous cousins including Robbie Dixon, Corey Dixon, Parker Dixon, Hanna Dixon, Shawn Mitchell, Brittney Mitchell, Trey Mitchell, Felicity, and Ariel. She is also remembered fondly by her uncles Tony Holmes, Tracy Holmes, Tio Louie, Tio Mickey, and Uncle Earnest Cannon; her aunts Starr Dixon, Cassey Munro, Stacey Knight, Desiree Holmes, and Tia Lydia Gomez; as well as her sister-in-law Sherry Wills.
Sammy had a vibrant personality that shone through in everything she did. She loved swimming, playing games on her phone, watching TikTok videos and movies with loved ones, creating content online, and enjoying TV shows. A fan of WWE wrestling and an active participant in life’s simple joys, Sammy’s laughter was infectious and her singing voice unforgettable. Her faith as a Pentecostal woman guided her life as she sought to bring kindness and positivity to those around her.
A godly woman with a sweet spirit and a generous heart for others, Sammy touched countless lives with her compassion and warmth. She will be remembered for her hard work and dedication to helping those who were down or in need of encouragement.
Sammy’s legacy is one of love and selflessness—a testament to the impact she had on those fortunate enough to know her. May her memory bring comfort to all who mourn her passing.
