Sandra Milne Montano

1939 - 2026

Sandra "Sandi" Montano (née Milne) died at Holmes Regional Medical Center during the early hours of Saturday, February 14, 2026. Sandi was two weeks shy of her 87th birthday.

Sandi, an only child, was predeceased by parents James Milne (born Aberdeen, Scotland) and Mary Elizabeth Milne (née Wilkinson) (born Liverpool, England).

Survived by husband of nearly 64 years Robert Francis Montano and only child, son Robert Joseph Montano and wife Dr. Siriporn Montano (née Boonpa) of Viera, FL and Chumphon, Thailand;

Sandi was one of the very first young American children treated, via special dispensation, with penicillin due to peritonitis related to a burst appendix.

Born in Bellrose, Queens, NYC, Sandi was a retired Critical Care Registered Nurse, educated at Queens College and NYU nursing programs.

Sandi relocated up-and-down the eastern seaboard several times: with husband Bob and two-year old son, to Cocoa Beach, FL, in 1966 where she continued her nursing career at Wuesthoff Memorial Hospital in Rockledge, FL; Near the closure of the Apollo program, Sandi and family opted to stay in sunny Florida, relocated to Winter Haven, FL; Following ten-plus years expanding her nursing skills into Cardiac Care as a CCRN at Winter Haven Hospital, Sandi followed husband Bob to Milledgeville, GA, and Baldwin County Hospital; A return to Wuesthoff via Melbourne, FL; Glen (Jackson), NH; Satellite Beach, FL; and eventually settled in Viera, FL.

She was generally quiet and shy, but those who knew her best would describe her as feisty, independent, and strong-willed. Sandi was a selfless person who always put others before herself. She loved hydrangea flowers and enjoyed afghan crochet and days of cross-stitching prior to the onset of arthritis. She also had a big heart and loved sharing stories with her friends, especially over a "Ten-Penny" card game. She loved reading and was a regular patron of the Brevard Public Library at Satellite Beach and Suntree-Viera.

She had a long and full life, was loved and gave love, and will be missed.

Interment, along with her parents, at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Palm Bay, Florida.
