Sandra Lee Thurmer

Sandra Lee Thurmer was born on September 29, 1940, in Jackson, Minnesota, to Ted and Myrtle (Gieser) Thurmer.

After graduating from Jackson High School, Sandy went to the Lutheran Bible Institute (LBI) in the Twin Cities before studying at the Fairview Hospital School of Nursing in Minneapolis. As an RN, Sandy served in the Air Force as a nurse until she retired.

Together with her partner of over 50 years, Sandy and Col. Stephanie Mudge lived in many places including Enon, OH, Colorado Springs, CO, Anchorage, AK, Jackson, MN, and Wichita Falls, TX. Sandy and Stephanie were married on March 3, 2014 in Minneapolis.

Sandy was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church in Wichita Falls and the North Texas Via de Cristo community. She loved to play games with friends and family, she enjoyed gardening, woodworking and together with Stephanie rescued and cared for horses and many dogs over the years.

Sadly, Sandra and Stephanie accidentally died together of carbon monoxide poisoning in their home on February 7, 2026, in Wichita Falls, Texas. Sandy was 85.

She is survived by her brothers: Daniel (MaryAnn) - Decorah, IA, Mark (Jan) - Jackson, MN and Patrick (Karla) - Cape Coral, FL, Sister-in-law: Kathy - Jackson, MN, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers: Roger and Mike.
