Scott Patrick Farmer, 66, passed away on January 13, 2026, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Born on March 29, 1959, in South Bend, Indiana. The Farmer’s moved to warm, sunny Albuquerque, New Mexico when Scott was still a baby. Scott spent most of his early life in the North Valley of Albuquerque. While in Albuquerque he built a life rooted in family, craftsmanship, and a deep love for automobiles.
Scott graduated from Valley High School in 1977 and went on to attend the Arizona Automotive Institute in Phoenix, completing his studies in 1980. His fascination with cars began early—he helped his best friend build a kit car on a VW body during high school—and that passion shaped his first career. His first job outside the family business was at Ace Auto on North 4th Street, and he later worked in the service department of a car dealership before returning to work alongside his father and siblings at Farmer Construction.
After the passing of his father, Paul Farmer, in 1983, Scott transitioned into home building. He spent many years contributing to residential projects with Mechenbier Homes and Sivage Homes. Known for his generosity and skill, Scott was always ready to lend a hand to family and friends with remodeling projects or offering guidance when someone was considering a new home purchase. His talents also included residential design and decorating. He was known for his customer service. Residents of his new homes could always count on Scott to be there when needed to help with repairs and touchups. Often helping hang pictures and move furniture for them. Above and beyond expectations.
Scott met his first wife, Carolyn Chafin, during one of his father's construction projects at Lovelace Hospital in Albuquerque. They married in October 1984. In 1988, they welcomed their adopted newborn daughter, Chelsea. Scott was a devoted father who fully embraced Chelsea’s passion for horses and basketball. He made sure she had access to riding sessions and ensured her horse was cared for with compassion and diligence. He was enthusiastically present for every moment of basketball while patiently tolerating the horse shows.
In 2006, Scott met his second wife, Mary K Phillips, through the magic of online dating—a testament to modern connections— and they married soon after during the warm New Mexico Christmastime on December 23, 2006. Through this union, he welcomed a stepdaughter, Jacque Phillips-Paro. Together, Scott and Mary Kay shared over eighteen years of marriage. On May 12, 2022, following Jacque’s untimely passing, they stepped into the role of guardians for her son Jesse. Scott embraced this new chapter with strength and love, becoming “Jesse’s Pal”
The same year brought profound sorrow with the loss of his beloved daughter Chelsea at age 34—a heartbreak that left an indelible mark on him.
Throughout his life, Scott remained deeply connected to the automotive world. In later years, he found camaraderie and joy as a member of Albuquerque’s local Cars & Coffee club. Whether restoring classic cars or simply talking shop with fellow enthusiasts over coffee, Scott continued to nurture the passion that had defined so much of his life.
Scott is survived by his mother, Esther Farmer; his younger brother Bruce (wife Terry (Falkenberg) and sons Nathan, Calvin and Elliot); and younger sisters Erica (Rinde) (husband Tom Rinde and children Nicole, Anna and Olivia) and Elena (King) (husband Steven King and son William Sellers-Dreher). He also leaves behind his grandson Jesse, whom he helped raise with unwavering love and dedication.
He was preceded in death by his father Paul R. Farmer jr.; his oldest brother Eric Farmer; his daughter Chelsea Farmer; and stepdaughter Jacque Phillips-Paro.
Scott's legacy lives on through the homes he helped build, the engines he brought back to life, and the lives he touched with quiet generosity and steadfast support. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him. A Celebration of Life will be held on January 22, 2026, from 2:30 PM to 04:00 PM at Cremation Society of New Mexico 1935 Juan Tabo Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87112.
