Scott Alan Feero, 70, of Cortlandt Manor, New York, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 17, 2025. Born on December 12, 1955, in Hendersonville, North Carolina, Scott was the son of Robert W. Feero and Betty M. Feero. He grew up in Burnt Hills, New York, graduating from Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School in 1974, where he played football and held the school record for pole vaulting.
Scott lived a life defined by curiosity, creativity, and deep connection to people, to nature, and to the inner workings of the human spirit. He was a man of extraordinary talent: an artist, photographer, award-winning filmmaker, author, musician, and master carpenter. His gifts were many, but it was his thoughtful, searching, and sincere way of seeing the world that most defined him.
Scott studied Film and Media Arts at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design from 1975 to 1978, and was the recipient of the Massachusetts Cultural Council fellowship in filmmaking. While many of his peers pursued academic or conventional artistic paths, Scott chose a different way, one rooted in independence and intention. A skilled carpenter by trade, he worked in construction, a craft that allowed him the freedom to pursue art, science, music, literature, and the deeper questions of life on his own terms. An avid photographer from the age of ten, Scott was the one at every family gathering with a camera in hand, documenting not the posed moments, but the ordinary ones that make life so special: conversations, laughter, and music.
Scott was the author of "Dressing Stone: A Post-Postmodern Picaresque," and was completing his second book, a work that was part memoir and part biography focused on his mentor and friend, the late Harry Everett Smith. Throughout Scott's life he remained committed to creative expression in all its forms, approaching the world as a lifelong student, always reading, learning, and exploring new ideas. He embraced the model of the natural philosophers, guided by his personal motto: "All for the pure interest of it all."
Above all, Scott was a loving and devoted husband and father. He is survived by his beloved wife of over 41 years, Ling (Becky) Feero, and by his daughter, Maya Ling Feero, with whom he shared a deeply close and meaningful bond. Their connection was a source of great joy and pride in his life.
Scott is also survived by his brothers and sister, whom he loved dearly, Robert E. (Gretchen) Feero, Debra A. (Ralph) Pratt, Stephen M. (Berty) Feero, and Jeffrey D. (Laura) Feero, as well as by his nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews, to whom he was a cherished uncle and great-uncle. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Betty Feero.
Scott found profound peace in nature. He took up gardening and birdfeeding in his backyard, delighting in quiet observation and the rhythms of the natural world. Just as he connected deeply with art, music, and ideas, he connected with nature and with life itself, with patience, wonder, and reverence.
Scott will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his intellect, his creativity, his unbelievable humor, and the authenticity with which he lived. His legacy lives on through his work, his words, and the many lives he touched through love, mentorship, and deep connection. He was loved beyond words and will be missed tremendously.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Scott's memory are invited to do so in the ways he loved most: by spending time in nature, enjoying music (especially jazz), reading a book that teaches you something new, watching a classic film noir, and appreciating art or creating something of your own.
