Scott Andrew Mason, 57 years old passed away unexpectedly in Miami, Florida on Tuesday, January 13, 2026. He leaves behind his wife of 30 years, Meryl, the love of his life. He was a devoted husband, son, brother and uncle. Scott was born on June 22, 1968 in Highlands Park, Illinois and raised in Denver, Colorado where he graduated from Overland High School. Growing up Scott enjoyed playing soccer, rugby and especially golf. His love for golf started as a young boy while playing with his beloved grandpa in Boulder, Colorado. He was a die-hard Broncos and Avalanche fan who never missed a game.
Scott graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the College of Professional Studies, majoring in Hospitality, Meeting & Travel Administration with a double concentration in Hotel Administration and Restaurant Administration from Metropolitan State University of Denver in 1991. In 2004, Scott received the prestigious General Managers Program Certificate at Cornell University.
He began his 35-year career when he was selected to participate in the Disney Business Management Program. After completing the Program he held numerous executive management positions at Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort at Walt Disney World, followed by Disney's Vero Beach Resort. Scott was hired away by Hyatt Hotels & Resorts in 1998 and began his Hyatt career at the Grand Hyatt New York. He held executive management positions with Hyatt's Cerromar Resort & Spa in Puerto Rico, The Stanhope Park Hyatt New York, The Park Hyatt Chicago, The Park Hyatt Beaver Creek Resort & Spa and Hyatt Regency Denver Tech Center, The Driskill in Austin, Texas, Andaz Scottdale, Andaz 5th Avenue, and the Park Hyatt Aviara in Carlsbad, California. Scott was a change agent with extensive leadership experience. His many professional accomplishments include converting, renovating and opening the iconic Driskill Hotel as the Flagship of Hyatt's new Unbound Collection of boutique properties and building the Andaz Scottsdale from conception to opening. Scott was instrumental in the successful integration of Miraval, the 'best in class' wellness platform in the Hyatt family of brands.
Scott's lifelong dream to one day manage a private golf club was realized in June 2024, when he became General Manager & Chief Operating Officer at Deering Bay Yacht & Country Club in Coral Gables, Florida. Scott is remembered for leading with grace, integrity and unwavering purpose; fundamentally changing the culture of the club, elevating the member experience and unifying the management team and staff. His presence at Deering Bay will be deeply missed.
Scott met Meryl in 1989 while on Disney's College Program where they were both interns in Orlando, Florida. Throughout their time together they had the opportunity to travel the world and live in many different cities. Scott and Meryl were inseparable; they loved their life together, always adventuring and exploring new places.
Scott was an avid golfer and fitness enthusiast. His motto was 'Health is Wealth'. His Sunday morning routine included breakfast at a favorite local diner with a good book. Scott cherished his role as an Uncle to his nieces and nephews. He was their biggest fan and supporter in all of their endeavors. Last summer Scott & Meryl celebrated their 30-year wedding anniversary with many of them on the island of Kauai, Hawaii.
Scott's relationship with his parents was an integral part of his life; he took the role as first born seriously, always looking out for and checking in on his siblings.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Alfred and Bette Aden, Scott and Madelyn Ide, step-brother Matthew Nesland and mother-in-law Patte Chamberlain. Scott is survived by his wife, his parents Jim and Carol Nesland, father-in-law Rob Chamberlain, sisters Dawn (Billy) Green and Somer Hogan and step-brother John (Rebecca) Nesland. Surviving nieces and nephews are Taylor (Katy) Dalessandro; Grant, Elijah and Cora Green; Carter, Liam and Blake Hogan; Jack, Tyler and Reed Nesland; Hannah and Kate Hausner. He is remembered fondly by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
A celebration of Scott's life will be held at Valley Country Club in Aurora, Colorado on Sunday, March 29, 2026 at 3PM.
