Scott Kelly Philip, of Juneau, Alaska, passed away March 12, 2026 in Nampa, Idaho.

Born February 26, 1957, to William (Bill) and Eileen Philip (Owens), Scott was the fourth of five children. Scott was born in Springfield, Oregon, and spent his youth and early adulthood all throughout the state, including the beautiful Oregon coast. He graduated from Harrisburg High School in 1975, and went on to take classes through Linn County Community College. Scott was known for his love of fishing, hunting, the outdoors, fast cars, and being the life of the party.

After meeting as children, he went on to start a new chapter with his wife, Lisa Philip (Volk), to whom he was married for over ten years. Early on, the couple moved to Juneau, Alaska, in search of new opportunities and a chance at a king salmon (or twenty). There, they were married at the Mendenhall Glacier, and went on to have two children, William (Billy) and Letha. After their later separation, Scott would go on to raise Billy and Letha as a single parent, with the help of an amazing group of friends who became family in Juneau.

Scott began work with the City and Borough of Juneau in 1983. By 1994, he had worked his way to the position of fleet mechanic for Juneau Police Department. Scott held this job as the only mechanic for the department until his 30 year retirement in 2013. He was well known in the community for many years following his departure from CBJ due to his many connections and his great sense of humor.

When he wasn't working, Scott was often found four-wheeling and camping with friends in the beauty of Alaska, often by way of his boat, Jay Jay. He was an avid fisherman and would take part in the Derby, as well as many weekends spent on the water for days at a time. After his retirement, Scott focused on working on his revolving door of classic cars, most notably his 1968 Firebird, and time with his grandchildren.

In 2022, Scott relocated with his daughter, Letha, and her family to Nampa, Idaho. Scott spent his last years devoted to time with his grandsons, making memories in any way he could. He was so proud to see them excel in academics and sports, especially after growing up with a condition that made it difficult for him to participate in youth activities as a child. He was always ready to cheer them on and to help in any way to make sure they were given the chance at any opportunity they were presented.

Scott is survived by his son, William (Billy) Philip; his daughter, Letha (Philip) Bethel, and her fiancé, Kevin Powell, whom he lovingly considered a son-in-law; grandchildren William Philip, Angel Philip, Sophie Philip, Noah Pipenur, Dean Bethel, and Haven Bethel; and countless nieces, nephews, and their children.

Scott is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Eileen Philip; sister, Susan (Philip) Grazer and brother-in-law Larry Grazer; brothers, Sam, Steve, and Stuart Philip; nephew Dustin Philip; as well as many friends his considered to be his brothers.

Scott will be remembered for his fun loving attitude, loud presence, and unfiltered humor. The family is thankful to the community of Juneau and their outpouring of support at the news of his passing. Though he will be forever missed, we find comfort knowing that he is now free of pain and the limitations of his physical body.

A celebration of life will be held for Scott in Juneau, at the Moose Lodge. The celebration will take place April 11, 2026, at one o'clock, for those who wish to pay their respects and give condolences to the family.
