Sharlene Alfonso

Sharlene Alfonso, born on April 15, 1947, in New Bedford, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2025, in Toano, Virginia. She was 78 years old.

Sharlene was the beloved daughter of the late Charles and Irene Houghton. She was predeceased by her husband, David Alfonso; her brother, John P. Houghton; and two of her daughters, Kristine LaPlante Chapman and Irene Mary Houghton LaPlante. Despite these profound losses, Sharlene's life was filled with love and devotion to her family.

She is survived by her children: Jody Martel and her husband Randy Martel; Jerry Robinson; David Alphonso Jr.; and Joseph LaPlante and his wife Marjorie LaPlante. Sharlene was also a cherished grandmother to Jennifer Miller, Randianne Dudley, Katie Brochu, Shane Marel, Aaron Martel, David Robinson, Nicole LaPlante, Joseph LaPlante Jr., Lisa Perry, Samantha Chapman, Jordan Berard, Alize Furtado, Devin Alfonso, and an additional 19 grandchildren who brought immense joy to her life.

Sharlene is also survived by her sister Hollis Rielly and brother-in-law Bill Rielly; her sister-in-law Rena Houghton; as well as many extended family members who will remember her fondly.

A devoted mother and grandmother, Sharlene found great happiness in nurturing her family. She had a deep love for reading that enriched her life and provided moments of quiet reflection amidst the vibrancy of family gatherings.

Sharlene's memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. May her legacy of love bring comfort to all who mourn her passing. A Memorial Service will be held on April 19, 2026, from 01:00 PM to 03:00 PM at Dartmouth VFW 144 Cross Road . In lieu of flowers donations will be excepted towards cost of grave site.
