Sharon (Shari) Kay Kappel (née Moll) of Chattanooga, Tennessee, was born on April 22, 1961, in Memphis, Tennessee, to Pastor Donald Moll and Jeanette Moll. Shari lost her battle with cancer on December 7, 2025.
Shari lived in Elwood, Nebraska, followed by Batavia, Illinois, during her childhood. She was Valedictorian of her high school class in Batavia before attending the University of Illinois, where she received a degree in education. She later attained her Master's degree in Education from the University of California at Long Beach, where she was selected as the outstanding graduate student of her class.
Shari will be remembered as a proficient, energetic, and beloved employee in her role at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, College of Business office, where she worked until her final days. She was also loved and respected in her prior jobs and activities, all of which she approached with integrity and diligence. This was her approach to everything she did in life, especially in being a devoted and loving mother to her two sons. For enjoyment, she loved to read and work crossword puzzles. Throughout her life, Shari was a woman of faith and was a member of a variety of Lutheran Churches.
Shari is survived by her husband, Kurt; her sons, Matthew and Jacob (Julia); and her sisters, Deborah (Matt) Zoellner and Amy Moll.
A Celebration of Life will be hosted at her home in Chattanooga on January 31.
