Sheila Komito passed away peacefully in Yarmouth, Maine, on March 20, 2026, at the age of 85.
Born in New York City on July 31, 1940, Sheila lived a full and meaningful life.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Robert Hatcher; her daughters, Audrey Lynch (Dan) and Sharon Ruben (Dave); and her daughter-in-law, Elaine Witty-Komito. She was a proud Bubie to Bailey Thomson Blake (Chris), Nathan Thomson (Kirsten), Kacey Kramer (Brett), Ashley Ruben, and Sydney Ruben. She is also survived by extended family members whom she loved dearly and with whom she shared many treasured memories.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Jerry Komito; her son, Larry Komito; her mother, Helen Huberman; and her sister, Arlene Goldberger.
Sheila had a deep love of travel and was proud to have visited all seven continents—an extraordinary accomplishment that reflected her adventurous spirit and boundless curiosity. She was happiest in the warmth of the sun, especially by the ocean, always drawn to the beauty and rhythm of the beach. In recent years, she came to appreciate the quiet charm of Maine, where she made her home for the past two years.
She also delighted in life’s simple pleasures: traditional Jewish foods, a good Chinese meal, and—more recently—a perfect lobster roll. These small joys brought her comfort and were made even more special when shared with family.
She received loving and compassionate care from the staff at Bay Square at Yarmouth and Compassus Hospice, for which her family is deeply grateful.
“Traveling—it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller.” Sheila embodied this spirit, finding joy not only in exploring the world but in sharing those experiences with the people she loved.
A private family gathering will be held to honor her life.
Zichronah Livracha. May her memory be a blessing.
