It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Shirley (MacCallum) Chambers, who passed away peacefully and surrounded by love on March 12, 2026, at the age of 92. She was born October 19, 1933, in Bristol, Connecticut, to the late Belinda and William MacCallum.
Shirley was a 1951 graduate of Bristol High School and went on to work as a secretary at Barnes Group, where she dedicated many years before retiring. She was a lifelong member of the First Congregational Church, where she taught Sunday School, held many leadership roles, and gave so much of her time and heart in service to her church community. She was also a former Worthy Matron, Chapter 29, Order of the Eastern Star.
Shirley found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved to sew, crochet, knit, and cook for those she cared about. Some of her most cherished memories were the summers she spent with family at the log cabin home she and her husband built in Tabusintac, New Brunswick, Canada—a place filled with laughter, love, and time together.
She was predeceased by her high school sweetheart and beloved husband of 60 years, Charles “Mickey” Chambers, and her brother Melvin MacCallum.
She leaves behind her sister, Margaret MacCallum; her daughter, Cheryl (John) Duchaine; and her son, Mark (Joanne) Chambers. She was a proud grandmother to three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren, all of whom were the light of her life. She is also lovingly remembered by several nieces and nephews and by her beloved cat, Mittens, who brought her immense joy and companionship.
Shirley will be remembered for her warmth, devotion to her family, and the many lives she touched through her kindness and faith.
Funeral service is at First Congregational Church Bristol. 3/21/26 @ 11AM
