Shirley Gail Jones (née Brown), a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and woman of unwavering faith, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2026, in Prattville, Alabama. She was 83 years old.
Born on June 3, 1942, in Linville, Alabama, Shirley was the youngest of thirteen children. She grew up in a close-knit family and carried the values of love, resilience, and gratitude throughout her life. Despite facing many hardships and trials, Shirley remained steadfast in her faith and gave thanks to God for all things. Her favorite book of the Bible was Job, and she found comfort and strength in verses such as Romans 12:12—"Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer"—and James 1:12—"Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him."
Shirley was predeceased by her husband of 33 years, James Wayne Jones. Their marriage was a testament to love and partnership. Together they built a life filled with cherished memories that their family will treasure forever. Shirley was also preceded in death by her twelve siblings.
She is survived by her four devoted children: Billy Eugene (Martha) Newell of Oxford, AL; Thomas Ray Newell of Prattville, AL; Delilah Gail Williams (Mike) Lewandowski of Lincoln, AL; and Teresa Michelle Jones (Jay) Reid of Prattville, AL. Shirley's legacy continues through her four grandchildren: Dustin (Jessica) Newell of Oxford, AL; Andrew Thomas Caudle of Ohatchee, AL; Kattie Michelle Wilson (Zachary) Longiaru of Millbrook, AL; and Hunter Lee Wilson of Troy, AL. She was also blessed with five great-grandchildren—Hayden Caudle, Ashton Longiaru, Bradley Newell, Caden Newell, Micah Newell—and one great-great-grandchild.
Shirley's life was marked by her deep devotion to God and her family. She faced life's challenges with grace and perseverance while always expressing gratitude for her blessings. Her faith served as an anchor not only for herself but also for those around her. She inspired others with her steadfast belief in God's promises and her ability to find joy even during difficult times.
A private service will be held to honor Shirley's memory. In lieu of flowers or other tributes, those who wish to honor Shirley are encouraged to reflect on the words she held dear from Romans 12:12 and James 1:12.
Shirley Gail Jones will be remembered as a woman whose faith illuminated every aspect of her life. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her. A Celebration of Life will be held on May 2, 2026, from 03:00 PM to 05:00 PM at KP studio and events 2306 wall st.
