Sofia Luisa Mascolo, 32, of Green Bay, Wisconsin, passed away unexpectedly on January 1, 2026 after a tragic series of unfortunate events. Sofia was listed on the NCIC as a missing person for 5 months but her family never stopped searching. They received a bittersweet miracle, a call from a hospital and a reunion, rushing to her side to spend her final time on this earth together, holding her, loving her, and saying everything that needed to be said. Sofia was surrounded by music, her parents Raffaele and Lisa, her brother Giuseppe, and her beloved dog, Suki who never left her side.
A Chicagoan through and through, Sofia's early years were spent exploring the city and it's many museums and wild spaces. Even after moving away, no trip back to Chicago was complete without a mandatory stop at Nicky's for a hot dog and fries. Sofia was unabashedly herself, a sharp-witted woman, who wasn't afraid to tell you exactly what she thought. She had an infectious laugh, and a light dapple of freckles across her perfect nose that her family will forever miss.
Sofia had a heart overflowing with love and compassion, but no one captured her love quite like her beloved dog, Suki. She considered Suki her child, her constant companion, her greatest joy. The bond they shared was profound, and Suki was truly the center of Sofia's world.
Sofia lived life with a fearless, "can-do" spirit and an eye for hidden beauty. She was a master of the "thrift find," loved a good flannel shirt, had a love for rocks, crystals, and fossils, enjoyed watching Family Guy and South Park, and had a signature love for Eminem. Sofia loved cooking and baking for family and friends. She enjoyed gardening and loved picking flowers for the house.
A natural soul, Sofia possessed an innate gift for finding the barred owls on her family's property and a tender patience for the world's small wonders; like helping hatch and release Monarch butterflies. This spirit extended to people, especially children, who were naturally drawn to her playful, altruistic heart.
Sofia's life was also a testament to resilience. She navigated a path marked by deep-seated trauma and complex obstacles, challenges she did not choose, but which she met with bravery.
Sofia was born on September 25, 1993 in Hinsdale, Illinois and is survived by her devoted parents, Raffaele Mascolo and Lisa Viers-Mascolo; her brother, Giuseppe; her maternal grandmother, Karyn Brom Viers; her beloved pup, Suki; and a multitude of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who adored her. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Giuseppe Mascolo and Luisa Galdieri; her maternal grandfather, Anthony Lee Viers; and her maternal great-grandmother, Mary Viers Engelsman. The family would like to thank family friend Bryan for never giving up, our local, state, and federal agencies that assisted in the search, and St. Mary's ICU Huntington, WV
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday January 25, 2026 from12PM-8PM, at Pamperin Park, 2801 County Road RK, Green Bay,WI 54303. A place where Sofia found peace in the beauty of nature. Sofia will have a private burial in Italy. In the wake of this searing loss, we feel waves of grief over Sofia's young life cut short so tragically. There is never a convenient time for death; life has its tides, its highs and lows, and yet how do we make sense of such a young, beautiful soul's life cut short? We are in pain. We cry out to soothe the burning in our hearts—a fire of loss that will never go away. We never know how much time we have; please make the most of every day in Sofia's memory. Sofia Luisa Mascolo - forever loved, forever missed, forever in our hearts.
