Sonya Salois

Sonya Janice Salois (née Morin), 83, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 27, 2025, in Manchester, New Hampshire. Born on September 7, 1942, in Lewiston, Maine, Sonya lived a life marked by devotion to family, culinary passion, and a spirited personality that left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

Sonya dedicated the early years of her adult life to raising her family as a stay-at-home mother. In 1985, she began a new chapter as Head Cook for the Head Start program in Lawrence, Massachusetts. Her talent and love for cooking soon led her to the role of Executive Chef for the residing Sisters of the Presentation of Mary School in Hudson, New Hampshire. She retired from this position in 2001, leaving behind not only delicious meals but also cherished memories among those she served.

She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 53 years, William J. Salois; her four children: Daniel Sheehan, Robert Sheehan, Tanya Sheehan Kosik, and Dawn Salois; eight grandchildren: Thomas Kosik Jr., Timothy Kosik, Samantha Sheehan, Tyler Kosik, and Shaina Lewis; and six great-grandchildren: Kendall, Cameron, Kylie, Colby, Morgan, and Eddy.

Sonya's zest for life was evident in everything she did. She found joy in cooking—especially preparing her legendary meatballs and sauce that were always made in generous portions "for a small army." Her kitchen was often filled with laughter and the comforting aroma of home-cooked meals. Beyond the stove, she delighted in shopping trips, card games with friends and family, and dining out with loved ones.

A gifted crocheter with a generous heart, Sonya lovingly crafted baby blankets which she donated to the maternity ward at Elliot Hospital—a gesture that reflected both her creativity and compassion. Her legacy lives on not only through these acts of kindness but also through the many roles she embraced throughout her life: Mom, Nana, Auntie, cousin, friend, teacher, chef, and neighbor.

Known affectionately as a spitfire with a no-nonsense demeanor and an enormous heart to match it, Sonya captivated everyone fortunate enough to cross her path. Her presence was magnetic—her strength unwavering—and her love deeply felt.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Neonatal NICU unit at Elliot Hospital in Manchester, NH.
