Stanley Edgar, Jr., son of Lemuel Stanley and Nina Mae (Thompson) Edgar, was born October 13, 1919, in Olds, Iowa. He passed away on August 23, 1999, at the age of 79 years, 10 months, 10 days.

At an early age he moved to Clarinda, Iowa, with his parents and graduated from Clarinda High School.

He was a a member of the First Christian Church in Clarinda. On August 17, 1941, Stanley was united in marriage with Lois Swanson in Maryville, Missouri. They made their home in Clarinda and later in Shenandoah, Iowa.

Stanley entered the United States Navy in August of 1942 during World War II. He was aboard the USS New Mexico Battleship. During that time he took electrical training. He also completed radio and television school in Kansas City, Missouri. He received an honorable discharge from the Navy in November of 1945.

Stanley was an electrician for Iowa Power and Light Company and MidAmerican Energy from 1947 through 1982, retiring after 35 years of service.

Stanley served as a volunteer fireman for the Shenandoah Fire Department for 32 years. He was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Shenandoah, a member of the Waubonsie Rambler's Trailer Club, and enjoyed their friendship. Stanley loved his grandchildren, camping, boating, fishing, hunting, gardening, carpentry work and his cabin at Big Lake, Missouri.

Stanley was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Dennis, and infant daughter, Joyce. He is survived by his wife, Lois Edgar of Shenandoah; his son, James Edgar and wife Cathryn of Waterloo, Nebraska; and his daughters, Shirley Lundgren and husband, Gordon of Shenandoah; Sandra Franks and husband Marty of Essex, Iowa; and Susan Jarrett and husband Allen of Granite Bay, California. There are 11 grandchildren, Nicki Edgar Worthey, Michelle, Charlie, and Cathryn Edgar, Kristen and Craig Lundgren, Tiffany, Tracy, and Toby Franks, Nicholas and Paul Jarrett; and great grandchildren, Ashley Worthey and Cailyn Carter, and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Stanley Edgar, 79, Shenandoah, were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 25, at the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home in Shenandoah, with burial in the Clarinda Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the Alzheimer's Association or the Shenandoah Fire Department.
