Stanley Greenberg

1938 - 2025

Stanley Greenberg (Stan), 86, of West Hartford, Connecticut, died peacefully surrounded by his family Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2025.

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of Leon and Rebecca Cohen Greenberg. Stan was a 1960 graduate of Johns Hopkins University where he received a Bachelor of Engineering Science degree. After accepting a position with Pratt & Whitney, Stan moved to Connecticut, where he met his beloved wife of 61 years, Lillian Jean Shulsky Greenberg.

During Stan's career at Pratt & Whitney, he attended night classes to earn two master's degrees from RPI, one in mechanical engineering and one in computer science. He wrote a book about a computer simulation language, which was published by John Wiley & Sons. He retired in 1999 but continued to work as a consultant until the age of 72.

After retiring, Stan was able to spend more time with his three granddaughters, whom he loved dearly and often reminded, "It's good to know stuff." Stan also became active in a local Humanist chapter, at one point serving as its president, and contributed to the Aid-in-Dying legislative campaign on behalf of Connecticut's secular community. He loved to learn and engage in thoughtful discussions on issues and philosophy with his friends.

During his married life, Stan enjoyed many activities such as tennis, art, traveling and dining out with family and friends, working on his homes and cars, and following UConn women's basketball. He was an honorable man of high ideals who had an indomitable spirit, a keen and logical mind and a thirst for knowledge. His life was also distinguished by his boundless energy, strong work ethic and a sharp and witty sense of humor.

Stan is survived by his beloved wife, Lillian Jean of West Hartford; his daughter Laura Gibbs and son-in-law Rhett Gibbs of Tolland; three grandchildren, Marissa Fiddler, Amanda Gibbs and Emma Gibbs; Marissa's husband Kevin Fiddler and his cherished first great-grandchild, Noelle, of South Windsor; his sister, Norma Miller of London, England, and many dear friends.

A private graveside funeral service will be held at the Hartford Mutual Society Cemetery in East Granby on Sunday, Nov. 30. Following the interment, the family will receive relatives and friends at the McAuley, 275 Steele Road, West Hartford, CT, from 2 to 4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Kidney Fund. May his memory be a source of strength and a blessing to all who loved him.
