Stephen Joel Greenberg, Ph.D., passed away peacefully in his Land O’ Lakes home on October 27, 2025, at the age of 79-a home he was deeply proud of and where he found great comfort and joy. Born on March 6, 1946, in Florida and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Stephen built a life defined by curiosity, determination, and an unwavering commitment to learning.

Stephen was a dedicated scholar, earning a Bachelor of Science in Languages, a Master of Science, and a Doctor of Philosophy, all from Georgetown University. He believed deeply in the power of education and spent his life gathering knowledge, sharing it freely, and encouraging others to do the same. His business motto was “Educate and Inspire”. He spoke 4 languages and was very proud of his Jewish heritage.

A man of many talents and endless drive, Stephen spent his career doing work that brought him pride. He was a successful business owner, an instructor, and a teacher, always keeping his hands busy and his mind sharp through numerous business ventures. Stephen taught undergraduate courses as well as graduate courses at multiple universities. He was a leader in Federal acquisition and contracts management and spent many years developing and delivering professional development courses and seminars on strategic planning, contracting, program management, sales and marketing. One of his greatest joys was teaching his courses and mentoring others for success.

A published author, he published multiple books and articles, further demonstrating his passion for ideas and communication. Stephen also was a witness before Congress and an expert witness in Federal court cases.

Stephen had a collector’s heart. He loved cars—especially his Corvettes and his beloved Henry J—and enjoyed collecting stamps, coins, and sports memorabilia. A devoted Philadelphia sports fan, he followed the Eagles and Phillies faithfully, through every victory and heartbreak. Steve played high school and college level sports and was even drafted by two minor league baseball teams. In quieter moments, he could often be found enjoying any movie or favorite shows, The Price Is Right and Law & Order.

Stephen proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, an experience that shaped his discipline and resolve.

He was a man who valued authenticity above all else. Stephen often said he wanted people to either love him or hate him—no in-between—and he lived that truth wholeheartedly, leaving strong impressions on everyone he met. He also had an amazing sense of humor and was well known for telling “Dad jokes” to everyone and repeating them often. Stephen always instilled in his children to never give up on their dreams and to remain strong in the face of difficulties. His family and friends meant so much to him.

Stephen is survived by his loving wife, LoriJean (LJ) Greenberg of Land O’ Lakes, Florida; his daughter Michelle Greenberg of Fairfax Station, Virginia, his sons Noah Greenberg of Fairfax, Virgina, and Joshua Greenberg (and Kathleen O’Connell-Greenberg) of Richmond, Virginia. He is also survived by his grandchildren Aaron Tucker of Mount Airy (and Alyssa Tucker), and his granddaughters Hannah Tucker of Midlothian, Virginia, Soshanna Greenberg and Nomi Greenberg of Richmond, Virginia. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Reece Tucker of Burlingham, New York and Eleanor Tucker of Mount Airy. Also, he is survived by four bonus children, Nicholas McNally (Tara) of Safety Harbor, Florida, Shannon McNally (Craig) of Jacksonville Florida, Kelsey Booker (Matt) of Gainesville, Florida and Brittany McNally (Robbie) of Asheville, North Carolina, as well as three bonus grandchildren, Cameron McNally of Safety Harbor, Florida, EmmyLu Gibson of Jacksonville, Florida and Owen Booker of Gainesville, Florida. Steve was predeceased by his grandson Ryan Tucker of Burlington, New York. He had many names among his family, Dad, Pop-Pop, Pappy and Poppo. He was proud of all of his names. His family, whom he loved deeply, will carry forward the many lessons, stories, and passions he shared throughout his life.

Stephen’s legacy is one of intellect, independence, humor, and an unforgettable spirit. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
