Stephen Wesley Van Hooser, 69, entered eternal rest on April 19, 2026, in Denver, CO.
A Service celebrating the life of Stephen Wesley Van Hooser will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, May 29, 2026, at Bethany Lutheran Church, 4500 E Hampden Ave., Cherry Hills Village, CO 80113. A reception at the church's Fellowship Hall will follow.
Steve was born October 28, 1956, in Maracaibo, Venezuela to Edd Van Hooser and Jane Rundle Van Hooser, the first of two children. His father's career in the oil and gas industry took the family all over the world, and Steve grew up living in Bogotá, Colombia; Houston, TX; Madrid, Spain; London, England; and Dallas, TX. Steve resided in Denver, CO since the summer of 2009, after moving with his wife, Juli Jones Van Hooser, from Houston, TX.
Steve earned both his Bachelor of Arts, Class of 1979, and Juris Doctorate, Class of 1982, from the University of Texas at Austin and enjoyed a 40-year career as an attorney in the oil and gas industry in both Houston, TX and Denver, CO. Steve retired in 2023 as Deputy General Counsel of DCP Midstream, after over 22 years with the company.
In addition to his family, Steve's great passion and joy in life was music, and he sang tenor with the chancel choirs of Foundry United Methodist Church in Houston, TX, Trinity United Methodist Church and Bethany Lutheran Church in Denver, CO, and the Houston Choral Society, uninterrupted for over 40 years.
Steve was predeceased by his parents, Edd Murriel and Margaret Jane Van Hooser; parents-in-law Sidney Lee Jones and Carolyn Cassil Jones; and his brother-in-law, Michael Taylor Shelby.
Steve is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Juli Jones Van Hooser of Denver, CO; son James Chandler Van Hooser of Telluride, CO; daughter Meredith Mae Van Hooser and partner Michael Koehler of Denver, CO; sister Diana Jane Shelby of Houston, TX; sister-in-law Angela Jones Enright and brother-in-law Jeff Enright of Fredericksburg, TX; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews and their families.
In lieu of flowers, our family suggests memorials be made to Telluride Theatre at https://www.telluridetheatre.org/#donate, or the charity of your choice.
