Steven Douglas Fisher Sr., age 82, passed away on December 30, 2025, at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, Washington. He was a resident of Rochester, and a longtime resident of Washington.

Steven was born on October 12, 1943, in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. He was the son of Virginia Lois Switzer and Clyde Joseph Fisher, and the older brother of Michael Arthur Fisher (Cecelia "Cedy"), who currently lives in Menlo Park, California, with his family. Clyde passed away in 1951 while the family was living in Pasadena, California. Virginia married Lawrence "Larry" Deward McCabe, who worked for the Pasadena Fire Department. As a caring step-father, he helped shape their strong sense of responsibility and service.

Steven was raised in Pasadena, and following high school he honorably served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He entered active duty on December 7, 1962, and served until November 22, 1966. He was assigned to the USS Ernest G. Small (DD-838) and earned the Vietnam Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He was fond of his time spent in Japan. His service later resulted in full disability due to Agent Orange exposure.

He married Linda Joyce Ballard in Honolulu, Hawaii on September 3, 1966. They met in high school and returned to live in Southern California when their time in Hawaii ended.

After his military service, Steven pursued an entrepreneurial path, owning and operating several businesses, including a Chevron Gas Station, a mechanic shop and a gun store. Following a successful battle with cancer (1991), he returned to school and began a new career as a respiratory therapist, reflecting his resilience, determination, and commitment to helping others.

Steven's life of service extended deeply into his community through the Boy Scouts of America. For more than a decade, he served as a Scoutmaster and Commissioner with the Inland Empire Council, mentoring countless young men. Many achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, including his three sons. For an act of extraordinary heroism in saving a life at great personal risk, Steven was awarded the Boy Scouts of America Honor Medal with Crossed Palms, the organization's highest lifesaving honor. He also worked extensively with the Red Cross and was the chairman of the San Bernardino County Disaster Committee.

Steven was the proud father of five daughters and three sons, all from his former marriage to Linda Fisher (later Butterfield). He is survived by his children, Kari Bogh (Jay), Steven Douglas "Doug" Fisher Jr. (Denise), Tracy Stockton (Dale), Jennifer Clinch (Edward), Christopher Fisher (Tricia), Timothy Fisher (Sasha), Amy Stubbs (Ethan), and Stephanie Fisher; 30 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. His children were raised as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and they honor and respect him for that.

Doug, Denise and their children and grandchildren lived close by in Washington and were helpful in Steven's life and to his well-being. Steven shared his later years with his wife, Jo Margaret ("Jo") Combs Fisher, who preceded him in death in 2022. Following her passing, Steve's dear friend Judy Allen was a constant and compassionate presence in his life and remained by his side through the final week of his life.

He found joy in the ocean, at the beach and in the mountains and cherished time fishing and camping with his family. A lifelong learner, he was an avid reader and a devoted World War historian. Steven found joy raising and cherishing his dogs, in particular three boxer dogs named Buster, Brandy, and Auggie. He was a skilled classic car restorer, with a particular passion for Packard automobiles. He enjoyed his time spent at car shows, visiting and sharing.

Steven will be interred at Riverside National Cemetery located at March Air Reserve Base, California. A private service will be held by his children at a later date.

Steven Douglas Fisher will be remembered for his courage, determination, intellect, mentorship, sense of humor, love for his family and a life defined by service.
