Steven Mendelson, 73, of DeLand, Florida, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2026. Born in The Bronx, New York, on June 19, 1952, Steven was the son of Morris and Esther Mendelson. Growing up in Queens, he was incredibly close to his brother, Robert. A defining memory of their childhood was spending summers at Rockaway Beach, where the two brothers once selflessly saved up coupons to buy a gift for their mother rather than toys for themselves.

In his professional life, Steven was a cornerstone of March Electronics for over 42 years. Starting as the company’s very first employee, he was mentored by Donald Vilardi—whom he viewed as a father figure—and eventually rose to the position of Vice President and part-owner.

A "gigantic" sports fan, Steven’s loyalty to the New York Yankees, Giants, and Rangers was legendary. His passion for the game translated into years of coaching his children, Tami and Garrett, in baseball and softball. In his later years, Steven’s favorite place to be was on the golf course, sharing rounds and laughs with his son, Garrett, and his dear friends Al, Charles, Glenn, and Glenn’s son, Nick.

Steven’s journey of faith was a central part of his later life. As a follower of Jesus Christ and a member of Mosaic Church, he found great peace in prayer and contemporary worship music. A particularly sacred milestone was his 2023 baptism at the First Methodist Church of Oviedo, a ceremony he shared with his son, Garrett. His final request was to attend the sunrise Easter service at SeaWorld with his family and friends, a wish fulfilled just before his passing.

Steven was preceded in death by his grandparents and his loving parents, Esther and Morris. He is survived by:

* Children: Tami (Travis) Rollins and Garrett (Kalee) Mendelson.
* Granddaughters: Mae Elizabeth, Milly Ann, and Margaret Esther Mendelson.
* Brother: Robert (Lenore) Mendelson.
* Nieces & Nephews: Evan (Anita) Mendelson and their children Matthew and Kayla; Melissa (Keith) Green and their children Jillian and Aidan.
* Extended Family: Other extended family and close friends, especially the Smith/Fusaro families.

Service Information:
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 18th, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the First Methodist Church of Oviedo, led by Pastor Brian James. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service. Flowers may be sent to the church at 263 King Street, Oviedo, FL 32765.
