Steven Allen Rosen passed away on Monday, January 27, 2025, in Brooklyn, New York, following a brief illness. He was 68 years old.
Born and raised in Miami Beach, Florida, Steven was a bright and adventurous child who cherished time with his close-knit family. He enjoyed memorable trips around the world and annual visits to Breckenridge, Colorado. In high school, he excelled as an honor student and an award-winning extemporaneous speaker and debater.
Steven attended Haverford College, an experience he treasured, forming lifelong friendships that remained central to his life. He went on to earn his law degree from NYU Law School, where he continued to thrive academically while expanding his circle of devoted friends. After graduating, he began his legal career at Stroock & Stroock & Lavan in the litigation department before establishing his own firm specializing in representing plaintiffs in discrimination disputes. His dedication extended beyond his practice as he volunteered with Lambda Legal Defense Fund and supported numerous LGBTQ organizations.
A true New Yorker at heart, Steven embraced city life to the fullest. Living near the Brooklyn Museum and Botanical Garden brought him endless joy, as did exploring new neighborhoods, discovering restaurants, attending live theater, and spending time with friends. On weekends, he found solace at his country home in Ancram, New York, where he enjoyed gardening, cooking, and long walks.
A beautiful memorial service was held on February 22, 2025, at Congregation Beth Simchat Torah in New York City, to celebrate Steven's life. A bench is being installed at the North end of Long Meadow in Prospect Park with a plaque in his honor and memory.
Steven is survived by his sisters Wendi Rosen and Lori Ilise George (Michael George), niece Sarah Kate George, nephew Jacob Samuel George (Bianca Gilfoy), and great-nephew August Michael George, as well as many beloved Rosen, Serota, Schaffran, Feder, Koppele, Bloom, Burka and other cousins and devoted friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Judi Rosen.
Steven left us too soon and too suddenly. His memory will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved him.
