Born in Grosse Pointe Farms on December 30, 1977, Steve grew up in metro Detroit and graduated in Shelby Township from Eisenhower High School in 1996.
He is survived by his parents, Sam and Mary Soranno; his brother, David, and his family, Monique, Ben, and Giada; his sister, Jennifer Chapman, and her family, Brett, Nick, and Sami; his grandmother, Eleanor Schwartz; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends he considered family.
Steve built a long and successful career in retail that took him all over the country. Along the way, he formed countless friendships, many of which lasted decades and spanned coast to coast.
After leaving retail, Steve turned his lifelong passion for baseball cards and sports memorabilia into a thriving business. Once that venture was established, he added another chapter to his entrepreneurial life by buying, renovating, and selling homes.
Despite living and working in many places, Steve somehow managed to stay closely connected with friends he made throughout his life, no matter the distance.
Steve had strong political opinions, enjoyed conspiracy theories fueled by his favorite podcasts, and had an unapologetic love of reality television. He was endlessly curious, always eager to learn more, and committed to fact-checking everything.
During his recent illness, Steve heard from so many friends offering comfort and support. No presence, however, brought him more comfort than Chloe, the six-pound Biewer Terrier who stole his heart at first sight. Steve was deeply grateful for all of you.
He will be remembered for his sense of humor and infectious laughter, his calming and reassuring tone, and his unique ability to size up any situation and offer multiple solutions. He marveled at the talents and accomplishments of his nieces and nephews and took great pride in each of them.
We are proud to share that, as a tissue donor through Gift of Life Michigan (giftoflifemichigan.org), Steve will continue to live on through the lives he’ll help.
Steve had a heart as big as the sky, and his presence will be missed beyond measure.
A Celebration of Life is being planned for this spring.
