Stranger Lee Dunn, Sr.

Stranger Lee Dunn Sr, 70, of Gary, Indiana, passed away on February 24, 2026.

Stranger was born on December 20, 1955, in Charleston, Mississippi, to William and Willie Dunn. He later made his home in Gary, Indiana, where he built a life centered around hard work, family, and love.

Throughout his life, Stranger was known for his strong work ethic. He worked for U.S. Steel for two years and later at Valparaiso College as a cook. He was self-employed for much of his life before spending the final ten years of his career at Rooms to Go, where he retired.

On July 17, 2001, Stranger married Cynthia Dunn, and they spent 25 wonderful years together. Stranger's love was genuine and unconditional.

He was an open-armed man whose family meant everything to him. He loved bowling, fishing, and most of all, celebrating and spending time with those he loved. He was truly the glue that held many together — a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Dunn; his mother, Willie Dunn; his sisters, Katie Langley and Leola Reed; his brother, William Dunn Jr.; his sons, Kevin Dunn and Stranger Dunn Jr.; his grandson, Derrick Crawford; and his sister-in-law, Daisy Dunn.

Stranger leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Cynthia Dunn; his brothers, Cleveland (Daisy) Dunn and Henry (Sandra) Dunn; his sisters, Dorothy Dunn and Hessie (J.F.) Mitchell; his children, Sharees Johnson, Sandra (Kenneth) Gray, Quester Evans, Chandra Jones, Deonadrae (Donielle) Brumfield Sr., Jonathan Vann, and Monica Robinson; 30 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, special close friends, and all who were blessed to know him.

Visitation: Friday, March 6, 2026, 12:00 p.m-8:00 p.m. with family hours 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at the Guy & Allen Funeral Chapel.

Funeral Service: Saturday, March 7, 2026, 11:00 a.m. at Tree of Life Missionary Baptist Church, 2323 W. 11th Ave., Gary, IN. Pastor Anthony Owens, Officiant.

Interment: Evergreen Memorial Park, 3815 W. 39th Ave., Hobart, IN.
