Susan Cook Anderson

1948 - 2026

Susan Cook Anderson, "DraDra," a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2026, in Mobile, AL. Born on August 30, 1948, in Union Springs, AL, Susan spent her early years in Birmingham, AL, where she attended Berry High School before pursuing further education at Auburn University, where she was a member of Kappa Delta sorority and met the love of her life, Rusty.
Susan dedicated much of her life to her family as a stay-at-home mom, a role she cherished deeply. She found profound joy and fulfillment in nurturing her children and later, her 8 grandchildren, who were the light of her life. Her passion for art was not just a personal hobby but also a gift she eagerly shared with others, teaching art at Troy University and through private and group lessons. Susan's paintings often captured the essence of her warm, loving nature and her ability to see beauty in the everyday.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Hilmer Anderson Jr; her children, Brett and Ashley Anderson; and her parents, Dr. Malcolm Cook and Sue C. McGlynn. Susan is survived by her daughter, Lari Anderson Arras (Rob); her sisters, Cathy Scofield (Doug) and Cheri (Jeff) Carlton; and her adoring grandchildren - Hunter Cutrell (Kelley), Rose Ellen Buzhardt, Mary Frances Powell (Chip), Cade Arras, Laura Bryant Anderson, Russell Arras, "Buddy" Russell Anderson III, and John Svensen.
Susan's family and friends will gather to honor her memory at a Celebration of Life to be held in Union Springs, AL, at a date yet to be determined. Her life was a vivid tapestry of love, not only for her family and friends, but more importantly her love of Christ Jesus, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her. She will be remembered as a woman with an incredible heart, whose legacy of kindness and self-less devotion will live on through her family and the many people she inspired.
