It is with profound love and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Susan E. "Sue" Clifton (née Armstrong), a devoted wife, mother, sister, daughter, aunt, grandmother, and friend, who departed this life on January 2, 2026, in Daytona Beach, Florida. She was 69 years old.
Born on June 4, 1956, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Susan was the beloved daughter of the late Marion Armstrong. Raised in the heart of Philadelphia, she carried with her the values of resilience, compassion, and unwavering loyalty that would define her life and legacy.
In 1981, Susan married Bruce Clifton, beginning a remarkable 44-year journey together. Their union was one built on love and mutual respect—a partnership that weathered life’s greatest triumphs and most difficult challenges. Together they created a home, one filled with warmth, laughter, and unconditional love and support. Susan had an extraordinary ability to make everyone feel welcome and safe; her home became a "safe haven" for all who entered.
Family was the cornerstone of Susan’s life. She poured her heart into nurturing those she loved and was the steady presence her family could ALWAYS count on. As a mother to Amanda, Kenny (Joe), Krystle, Jen, Reggie, and Tina; as a grandmother to Alex, Jace, Cordelia, Elijah, and Bria; as a sister to Linda (Warren) Beacher, Cindy, Karen & Eddie; and as an aunt to many nieces and nephews—Susan was the glue that held generations together. Her love knew no bounds.
She had a rare gift for making each person feel uniquely seen and valued. Whether offering comfort during hard times or celebrating life’s joys with uncontainable enthusiasm, Susan brought light into every room she entered. Her presence was both calming and empowering—a true matriarch whose strength uplifted everyone around her.
Susan leaves behind not only her immediate family but also a wide circle of dear friends who were touched by her kindness and generosity. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she impacted through simple acts of love: a listening ear during troubled times, an open door when someone needed shelter or solace, or just the warmth of her smile that made everything feel okay.
Though our hearts are heavy with grief at her passing, we find comfort in knowing that Susan's spirit will continue to guide us. Her memory will live on in every shared story around the dinner table, every moment of quiet strength passed from one generation to the next.
May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her—and may we honor her by continuing to build sanctuaries of love wherever we go.
