Susan Frazier Swales

1950 - 2025

Susan Frazier Swales, 75, passed away on November 24, 2025, in Hampton, New Hampshire. Born on August 23, 1950, in East Derry, New Hampshire, Susan lived a life enriched by curiosity, creativity, and a deep appreciation for both nature and craftsmanship.

A member of the Salem High School Class of 1968 in New Hampshire, Susan began her professional journey with Raytheon Corp in Nashua, then Modicon Corporation in Andover and North Andover, Massachusetts. She initially served as a Manufacturing Trainer before becoming the Administrator for an Engineering Department from 1984 to 1990. Known for her wit and warmth, she often quipped that "dealing with engineers was like herding cats"—a phrase that captured both her sense of humor and her remarkable ability to manage complex environments with poise.

It was during her time at Modicon that Susan met Andy Swales, who would become her husband and steadfast partner for the next 36 years. Their relationship blossomed amid shared laughter and camaraderie with colleagues—many of whom joined them for weekly dancing nights at Chevy's and lively sessions of "speed bowling" at Barnboard Lanes in Bradford.

After leaving Modicon, Susan embarked on a second career in real estate. She worked with Norwood Realty and Re-Max before earning her broker's license. Her dedication to helping others find their homes reflected the same care and attention she brought to every aspect of her life.

In her younger years, Susan was an avid skier who found joy hiking and camping in the White Mountains. These early adventures instilled in her a lifelong love of the outdoors. Later in life, she embraced quilting—a pursuit that allowed her to blend artistry with precision. She created an impressive collection of handmade quilts and traveled extensively to study techniques and collect unique fabrics from across the country.

Susan was known by those around her as a kind and thoughtful individual whose generosity extended beyond words into meaningful actions that touched many lives.

As a animal lover, and supporter of the ASPCA, at one time she had as many as 3 adopted dogs. She is survived by Daisy, a 4 pound Maltese who is 11 years old.

She is survived by her husband, Andy Swales. She was predeceased by her parents, Mary Edwards and Frederick Frazier; and by her sisters, Gail Frazier and Faith Norris.

In the last 10 years, she and Andy (and Daisy) have spent part of the year in Hampton Meadows, Hampton and the rest in the Vineyards in Naples FL

Honoring Susan's wishes, there will be no formal funeral or service. Instead, Andy will scatter her ashes along the Appalachian Trail in Franconia Notch—a place where she once hiked and felt most at peace.

May Susan's memory bring comfort to those who knew her and inspiration to all who walk the trails she once loved.
