Susan Edith Martineau

Surrounded by the love and support of her family, Susan went home to be with her Savior on Sunday, January 4, 2026, after a brief battle with cancer.

A cherished wife of 52 years to the late Paul Martineau. A most loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Susan devoted her life to her family and her community. Susan co-founded the Star of Bethlehem Christian School at the Congregational Church in North Chelmsford (CCNC) and served as the school's Director for 33 years before retiring. Susan also served as Clerk for CCNC; the Missions Committee and Youth Group Advisor. She was a Girl Scout Troop Leader. In retirement, Susan moved to Carlisle, MA where she continued to live a full life of love, service, community, and ministry, becoming actively involved in the Carlisle Congregational Church, serving on the Missions Committee. During her time in Carlisle, Susan found numerous friends at her home at Benfield Farms and through the Council on Aging's concerts and activities that filled her social calendar. A master of crochet, Susan loved crafts, the arts, and any excuse to spend time with the family and friends she loved dearly. She particularly loved the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. Above all, she treasured her relationship with Jesus and sought to share the heart of God with everyone she knew.

Susan was born on March 7, 1947 in Fitchburg, MA, to Edith Maki and Joseph Allen Maki. A 1965 graduate of Fitchburg High School and 1969 graduate of Fitchburg State College, Susan earned a Bachelor's degree in Education. Paul and Susan married on August 1, 1970.

Susan was the devoted mother of Lauren (Carl) Lewandowski, Cristin Martineau, and Andy (Meg) Martineau and proud grandmother of Quinn Lewandowski, Adysen Lewandowski, Raymond Martineau, and Drew Martineau.

In addition to her children and grandchildren, Susan is survived by her sister Karen (Jonathan) Hall, niece Lisa McHugh, grandniece Livia Fernandez, and nephews Joseph Maki, Jason Maki, Daniel Maki, and niece Samantha Maki. She was predeceased by her brother Joseph Maki. She also leaves behind her beloved cat Piper.

She will be missed dearly by her family and friends.

A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, February 7 at 11:00am at the Carlisle Congregational Church.
