Susan Scarpati, 64, of Philadelphia, PA passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 20. Born in Hazleton, PA, Susan was the daughter of the late Harmon and Joan (Wilkowski) Scarpati of McAdoo, PA.
She graduated from Hazleton High School in 1979, in the top 10 of her class, before earning a BS in Mathematical Science from Pennsylvania State University. After graduation Susan lived and worked in the Philadelphia metropolitan area. She worked as a benefits analyst, business analyst, and project manager for a number of major corporations in the greater Philadelphia area. She also enjoyed performing IT consulting services.
Susan was also athletically talented. She loved and studied the game of basketball. She played point guard on her high school team and was a passionate fan of the 76ers. Another interesting fact about Susan is that she was struck by lightning multiple times and survived.
Susan embraced life in Philadelphia, where she developed a diverse network of loving friends who were an essential part of her extended family. Fiercely independent, those who knew Susan understood and appreciated that she lived life on her terms. She was loved by so many!
Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents are her brothers Michael, in 1955 and David in 2005. Surviving are sister Louise in Birmingham, MI and brother Michael in Tybee Island, GA. She also leaves behind her niece Tracy in Savannah, GA and her nephew Michael with his wife Lauren (Matsunaga) and their children Matty, Emmy and Anna in Wellesley, MA.
A celebration of life will be held in Philadelphia at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Eagles Autism Foundation or Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society (PAWS).
