Susie Gallardo Rosales

1930 - 2026

Susie Gallardo Rosales, 96, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully at her home on April 9, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born on February 5, 1930, in San Antonio, Texas, to Fernando and Lina Gallardo, Susie was the youngest of four children.

Susie married Ruben Rosales on May 1, 1949 and together they built a life centered on family, eventually welcoming eight children—seven daughters and one son.
The family relocated to Bellaire, Texas in 1964, where they made their home and created countless cherished memories.

An avid gardener, Susie could often be found tending to her yard and plants. Over the years, her passion and pride earned her numerous “Yard of the Month” awards—honors that never failed to bring a smile to her face. That same care and attention extended into her home and throughout her community. She had a generous heart and was always there for friends and neighbors in need. She also cared for many children in the community, treating each one as her own.

Above all, Susie’s greatest joy and lasting legacy was her family. Nothing made her happier than a home filled with smiling, laughing, singing, and dancing loved ones—her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Whether for holidays, birthdays, or simple gatherings, she could always be counted on for a joke, a song, and making sure everyone had more than enough to eat and drink.

“WE R FAMILY” was more than just a phrase—it was a motto that reflected what she held closest to her heart, even celebrated on a couple of special occasions with matching shirts. More than anything, she wanted her family together.

To her children she was “Mom,” but to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren she was simply “Wela.” She filled their lives with love, laughter, and traditions they will carry with them always.
Wela’s home was a place of warmth, love and laughter. Mariachis were one of her favorite parts of any celebration, and she especially loved to sing along with them—her voice, her joy, and her spirit bringing those moments to life. She also loved singing songs in Spanish to the little ones, creating quiet, special memories they will always carry with them.

She will be remembered by all who knew and loved her as a warm, funny, and resilient woman of quiet strength. She overcame cancer and, in her later years, was lovingly cared for by her devoted daughter, JoAnne, reflecting the deep love and devotion within their family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fernando and Lina Gallardo; her brothers, Ricardo, Alfonso, and Johnnie; her son-in-law, Gilbert Evans; and her husband, Ruben Rosales.

She is survived by her beloved daughters, Rosalinda Lepow; Ruth Evans; JoAnne Rosales; Susana Perez (Daniel); Dolores Moseley-Hassan (Sion); Patricia Payer (Daniel); and Mary Ellen Anhaiser (Joey); her treasured son, Ruben Ross Rosales; her eight cherished grandchildren: Tyson and Jessica; Ryan, Krystal, and Samantha; Briana and Amber; and Nicolas; and her 18 great-grandchildren, with another arriving at the end of April 2026. She is also blessed with her surviving niece, Socorro Gallardo.

Susie’s enduring legacy is one of strength, kindness, and boundless love for her family—her greatest pride and joy.

May she rest in eternal peace in the presence of Our Heavenly Father.
