Terry Bernero, aged 80, of Wilmette, IL, passed away on March 21, 2026. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Gail Bernero (née Silver), and his daughters, Kathryn (Philip) Zoloto and Susanne (James) Kowalsky. He was a proud grandfather to Nathan, Franklin, and Julia Zoloto, and Eliza Kowalsky.
Terry spent his early career as an electrical engineer with the Chicago Transit Authority. After retiring from CTA, he co-founded Transit Associates, where he consulted with transit companies worldwide. As an enthusiast of trains, cars, and motorcycles, Terry often had an additional vehicle (GTO, Harley, or Chevelle) and shared details of any train car he rode, such as where and when it was built.
An avid gardener, with a special affinity for hosta, Terry took pride in his backyard. Although he was a frustrated golfer, for years he kept a sunrise tee time with his childhood best friends. Terry was a man of integrity who loved traditions, big and small, with his friends and family. Although Terry had many friends, professional pursuits, hobbies, and passions, there is nothing he loved more than his family.
