Terry Alan Maratellos, 85, of Newport News passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, January 28, surrounded by family. He was born October 3rd, 1940 in Jefferson City, Tennessee.

After graduating from Hampton High School in 1958, Terry proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for four years. He later enjoyed a long and distinguished career with Naval Sea Systems Command and Newport News Shipbuilding, where he oversaw aircraft carriers and special warfare craft design and construction. A lifelong servant to others, Terry retired at the age of 55 and went on to enjoy more than 30 years of retirement, many of them spent poolside with friends at Windward Towers.

Terry was preceded in death by his beloved wife and best friend of 47 years, Joyce Marie Maratellos; his mother Mary Fisher and her husband Harry; his sister-in-law, Jacqueline Plemmons; and Marla Marie Maratellos, to whom he was married for ten years. Terry was incredibly loved and admired by his family that survive him, including, his wife, Patsy Rae Maratellos; his children, Catherine Maratellos Clark and her husband, Dewayne, Michael Maratellos and Bryan Maratellos and his wife, Ann; his siblings Steve Phillips and his wife Linda, Doug Fisher and Linda Nye; his grandchildren, Kristin Coffey and her husband, Travis, Joanne Jones, Ricky Galloway, Alexy Maratellos Allen and her husband, Morgan, Sophia Maratellos, and Cloe Maratellos; his great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Mitchell, Zoie Galloway, William Galloway, Ethan Lacasse, Colin Coffee, Colton Dunn; and step-children, Sophie Carpenter and husband Blade Carpenter, Jill West and husband Roger, and Kimberly Dunkle.

Terry was deeply loved by all who knew him. He will be remembered for his generosity, his big heart, and his signature Puma tracksuit with a fresh pair of sneakers. He was often the last one on the dance floor at the Hampton Moose Lodge, Hilton Tavern, or on a cruise in the middle of the Caribbean. Terry spent his final days surrounded by love and devoted care from his wife and children. He will be dearly missed.
