Thelma H. Lake, affectionately known to her friends and family as "Honiee," passed away peacefully on February 19, 2026, in Santa Maria, California. Born on December 15, 1930, in Los Angeles, Thelma brought warmth and joy to the world for 95 years. After a brave battle with illness, she is now at rest.
Thelma lived a life defined by deep love and enduring relationships. She shared a remarkable 62 years of marriage with her husband, Larry Lake. Their partnership was the foundation of a large and loving family. Thelma was a woman of exceptional character, best known for her quick wit and a fantastic sense of humor that could light up any room. Even in difficult times, she maintained a positive attitude that served as an anchor for those around her.
Her interests were as varied as they were delightful. Thelma was the original "Foodie" before it was a trend, always ready to appreciate a delicious meal. She was incredibly creative, spending hours crocheting, sewing, and mastering the delicate art of doll making. When she wasn't creating, she enjoyed watching good movies, solving crossword puzzles, or spending time with the small dogs she loved so much. Thelma was also surprisingly modern. She loved electronics and used her iPhone and iPad to text and stay closely connected with her family until the last couple of years.
Family was everything to Thelma. She was adored by her 7 grandchildren and was thrilled to welcome 11 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Her relationship with her extended family was so strong that her sons-in-law and daughters-in-law proudly referred to her as a "5-star mother-in-law."
Thelma is survived by her son, Garin Lake, her daughter, Robin Benson, and her husband Greg; and her daughter, Tammy Spagnolo, and her husband Anthony, and daughter in law Leslie Lake. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Lake, and her son, Larry S. Lake.
She leaves behind a legacy of laughter and love. Her family holds close the sentiment: "Your presence I miss, your memory I treasure, loving you always, forgetting you never." Services will be held privately by the family.
