Theresa Joanne "Dolly" Ammirato (née Abate), age 104, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2026, in Folsom, California. Born on December 11, 1921, in Torrington, Connecticut. Dolly lived a long and vibrant life filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
A proud graduate of Torrington High School, Dolly came of age during a pivotal time in American history. During World War II, she contributed to the war effort by working in a factory—an experience that reflected her strength and resilience. After the war, she embraced her role as a devoted housewife and mother. A talented seamstress, Dolly often spoke with pride about sewing her own wedding dress—a testament to her creativity and skill.
Family was at the heart of Dolly's world. She is survived by her sons Jerry Ammirato and his wife Nancy, Bob Ammirato and his wife Valerie; her daughters Judy Fenta and her husband Carlos, and Janis Terwilliger and her husband Jim. Her legacy continues through eight grandchildren—Maureen Vander Zwaag, Tony Ammirato, John Ammirato, Traci Everett, Jason Fargo, Casey Fargo, Kathryn Ammirato, and Justin Baker—sixteen great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, August (Augie) Ammirato; her parents John and Josephine Abate; her sisters Rose Ryan and Virginia Hricko; her twin brother Francis "Sonny" Abate; and her great-grandson Ezra Fargo.
Dolly's home was always filled with warmth—and the delicious aroma of home-cooked meals. She loved cooking for family and friends and took joy in passing down cherished recipes. Her famous advice in the kitchen—"don't burn the sauce!"—became a beloved family mantra.
Her zest for life extended far beyond the kitchen. Dolly had an infectious energy that made every gathering more lively. She loved playing bingo and was a formidable card player who didn't hesitate to call out any cheating at the table—she played to win! Music brought her immense joy; she never missed an opportunity to dance or "shake a leg," as she liked to say.
Travel was another passion that enriched Dolly's life. From cruises to European adventures to spontaneous day trips, she embraced every journey with enthusiasm. In later years, she delighted in using her iPad to stay connected with loved ones and never missed an episode of her favorite soap operas.
A devout Catholic throughout her life, Dolly often said with conviction: "Only God knows." Her faith provided comfort and guidance through all seasons of life.
Known for her magnetic personality and sharp sense of humor, Dolly had hundreds of friends who were drawn to her fun-loving spirit. She relished being the center of attention and brought light into every room she entered. Above all else, she was a devoted wife and loving mother whose legacy will live on through generations.
