Theresa Marie Daugherty passed on October 6, 2025 at St. Francis Hospital in Lynwood, CA. She was 81 years old.
Theresa was born in Billings, MT on December 2, 1943 to Frances Bessie Slehofer and William Jessie Briceno. She attended Billings Senior High School before running away to Los Angeles one semester before graduation.
Once in Los Angeles, she met The Fury's pianist Ray Daugherty whom she ultimately married in 1964. Together, they had four children.
She grew up a Catholic and became a Christian through World Impact Ministries.
Theresa completed several certificates at Los Angeles City College and worked jobs as a teacher's aide at Vermont Avenue Elementary School and security officer at Pinkerton before pursuing a career in law enforcement in 1989. She was passionate about her role as a Police Officer with the Los Angeles County Police/Sheriff's Department where she served for nearly 20 years of loyal public service before retiring in 2010.
She was also a proud marathoner, completing marathon races all over the country. She ran the Los Angeles Marathon every year for 25 years.
She was dedicated to community service, donating blood to the American Red Cross for every birthday.
Everyone who knew Theresa knew how much she loved sharing all natural health remedies, speaking her mind, wearing cheetah print, and thrifting.
She will always be remembered for her unflinching honesty and generous spirit. Her memory will live on in the hearts of everyone who loved her.
Theresa is preceded in death by her mom, her dad, her aunt Betty, and her son-in-law Virgil Gray.
She is survived by her children Wendy McCruiston (John) Burrows, Robin Gray, Ray Daugherty, and Theresa Burns; her grandchildren Aonya, Kaleb, Christopher, Christin, Khayla, Kameron (Sungwoo), and Taylor; her brother Bill "Lalo" Briceno and her sister Bettyann Alva; and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Her celebration of life will be on Sunday, November 30 from 11 am to 1pm at Centre at Sycamore Plaza, 5000 Clark Ave, Lakewood, CA 90712.
