It is with both heavy and grateful hearts full of memories that we announce the passing of Jane, who left this world on December 21, 2025 possibly because her to do list was impossibly long with her very meticulous attention to detail or she finally got tired of our nonsense.
Born in Rensselaer Indiana, she was raised in Wheatfield Indiana and graduated from Kankakee Valley High School. Jane built a life rich with hard work ethic, ornery humor, compassion, grit, love and just the right amount of witty sarcasm. She practiced as a certified nurse aid and then nurse for decades, serving her patients diligently detailed and whole heartedly. She was known to care for her patients as if they were her own family and often reminded her family that we must always care for others as if they are our own.
She found great joy and reward in gardening, having maintained beautiful flower beds, always excitedly learning about new varieties and strategies.
Jane had a remarkable gift for making people laugh and feel important in the same conversation. Whether it was her signature curiosity, never knowing a stranger, words of wisdom, witty commentary, the way she could turn even a picking up sticks in the yard into a grand adventure...life was never dull when Jane was around. She was also known for telling you not what you want to hear, but what you need to hear. She taught us the importance of giving grace to others and also remembering "everyone is doing the best they can"
Until she was burdened with illness, the aggressive diagnosis of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS aka Lou Gehrig's Disease), she enjoyed traveling with her husband including numerous extended motorcycle trips on their Harley Davidson.
She was the picture of strength and mentally sharp as a can be, even into her last hours.
Jane leaves behind a long list of family members who she consistently told they were her favorite.
She was preceded in death by her mother Theresa, for whom she had deep affection, a handful of beloved pets and not a single plant left untended as she meticulously cared for them while she was able.
She is survived by her father Paul Jungels, husband Raymond Owens, daughter Crystal Anker (Nick, Gage, Colbie), daughter Jennifer West (Adam, Kaiden, Tyler), sister Barbara Manns (Marvin, Alisha, Logan), brother Donald Jungels, brother Phillip Jungels (Jessica), brother Jerry Jungels (Daysha).
In leu of funeral services, her family will be celebrating her life the way she lived it—with love, laughter and a cheers in a small private family setting.
She carried an avid curious & inquisitive nature, always advocating learning and further demonstrated this by electing to donate her remains to IU School of Medicine.
We miss her already but we promise to tell her best stories—which seem to be endless—especially the ones that make us throw our heads back in laughter and maybe she hoped we'd forget.
Additionally her family would like to extend gratitude to Guardian Angel Hospice service, who provided care beyond expected and who improved her quality of life during the end of her life.
