Theresa Evelyn Soucy-Vaplon, age 58, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2026. She was born on September 27, 1967, at Mercy Hospital to David and Fern Soucy of Anoka.
Theresa lived life on her own terms—free-spirited, adventurous, and full of passion. She was an avid traveler who embraced every experience with curiosity and courage. Her love for learning defined her life; she found joy both in educating others and in continually growing herself.
Throughout her life, Theresa followed many paths, each reflecting her creativity and determination. She worked as a CNA, traveled with the carnival, became a licensed cosmetologist, and later a cosmetology instructor. She also earned her bachelor's degree in psychology, a testament to her dedication to personal and intellectual growth.
Theresa was deeply artistic and expressive. She was a musician and singer who performed in a band, and she had a gift for writing songs, stories, and heartfelt letters. Known as the artist of the family, she loved drawing, painting, and creating anything that allowed her spirit to shine. She also worked at the Anoka Shopper and gave back to her community by volunteering for the Anoka Halloween Parade.
On September 27, 2025, she married her longtime partner and soulmate, Steve Vaplon, on her birthday—a reflection of the meaningful and intentional way she lived her life.
Theresa is survived by her loving husband, Steve Vaplon; her children, Cassy Soucy and Tanner Soucy; her granddaughter, Arayanna Soucy; her father, David Soucy (Terry); her sister, Jodi Soucy; and a host of extended family and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Fern Soucy; both her paternal and maternal grandparents; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on May 23rd from 2:00-5:00 PM at the Anoka Legion.
Theresa will be remembered for her free spirit, her creativity, her love of learning, and the deep impact she made on all who knew her. Though she lived boldly in her own way, her journey now rests in the hands of a faithful God. We take comfort knowing that the same Lord who formed her, walked with her, and sustained her through every season has now welcomed her home—where she is fully at peace, fully whole, and forever held in His presence.
Psalm 23
A psalm of David.
1 The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
3 he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
for his name's sake.
4 Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,[a]
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
forever.
