Thomas Dale Oaks, known to many simply as Dale, passed away on January 6, 2026, in San Luis Obispo, California. He was 81 years old.

Born to Eugene and Dorotha on November 19, 1944, in Mojave, California, Dale grew up with a strong sense of family and resilience that would guide him throughout his life. As a child his family moved from De Graff, Ohio to Kerman, Ca where he attended Kerman High School. Soon after he answered the call to serve his country. Drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, Dale served with distinction from 1965 to 1967 as a Specialist in the 1st Cavalry Division. His bravery earned him numerous commendations, including the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, National Defense Service Medal, Air Service Medal, Vietnam Combat Infantry Badge, and Vietnam Campaign Medal. His time in service left an indelible mark on his character and instilled in him a deep and enduring patriotism.

Following his military service, Dale embarked on a successful career as a salesman in both new and used cars as well as commercial food sales. His natural charisma and dedication to his work earned him multiple accolades over the years, including several paid vacation contests and numerous “Salesman of the Month” and “Salesman of the Year” awards. He had an innate ability to connect with people—a gift that served him well both professionally and personally.

Dale’s greatest pride was his family. He is lovingly remembered by his children: Mark Oaks of Fresno (age 57), Candice Lopez of Madera (age 56), and Scott Oaks of Clovis (age 54); his daughters-in-law Lisa Oaks of Fresno and Angi Oaks of Clovis; and his son-in-law Jose Lopez of Madera. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to his life.

He is also survived by his brothers John Oaks of Bakersfield and Gary Oaks of Fresno; and his sisters Connie Svihovec of Bakersfield and Cathy Lunday of Kerman. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Dorotha Oaks.

Dale lived life with enthusiasm and humor. Whether he was fishing or hunting with his sons, enjoying wineries with his daughter, or sharing laughs during coffee dates or casino outings, he brought energy and laughter wherever he went. Known for “smoking and joking” with his father and brothers, he was often the center of attention—the family comedian whose stories could light up any room.

He took great pride in teaching his children the value of hard work and how to face life’s challenges head-on. Watching them grow into accomplished adults was one of Dale’s greatest joys.

A man who loved sports—both watching them on TV or discussing them passionately, Dale also enjoyed playing tennis in earlier years. His hobbies reflected a zest for life that never waned.

Thomas Dale Oaks will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy lives on through the values he instilled in his family, the memories shared among friends, and the laughter that echoes through generations.

May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him. A Graveside Service will be held on February 26, 2026, from 01:00 PM to 02:00 PM at Belmont Memorial Park 201 N. Tielman Ave. Celebration of life being held after graveside service at:
