Thomas's early years were marked by his exceptional talent on the soccer field while attending Strake Jesuit Preparatory High School in Houston. A skilled athlete, he set records for the most goals and assists in a single season—a testament to his determination and passion. Beyond his athletic achievements, Thomas formed lifelong friendships during these formative years, bonds that he cherished throughout his life.
A proud Aggie, Thomas graduated from Texas A&M University in 1989 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing. His time at Texas A&M was a source of immense pride and joy, and he carried the spirit of the Aggies with him always. He remained an avid supporter of Texas A&M athletics and loved watching their games.
Thomas began his professional journey as a Financial Advisor with Lincoln Financial Group before transitioning to the benefits market in 1995 by founding his own firm. In 2004, he joined Benefit Concepts (BCI), where he dedicated over two decades to building meaningful relationships with clients and colleagues alike. As one of the original "Great 8" BCI producers, Thomas played an instrumental role in shaping the foundation of the company. His innovative ideas and commitment to excellence left an indelible mark on BCI's success. His professional legacy is carried forward by his son Bryton Ehrig, who worked alongside him for 12 years and will continue to uphold the values instilled by his father. Michelle Bowman, his Account Manager, was also vital to Thomas's accomplishments and shared in his professional journey.
Thomas was known for his kind heart, generosity, and welcoming nature. He had a rare ability to make everyone feel valued and respected. His love for family and friends was evident in every aspect of his life. He cherished spending time with his children Bryton Ehrig (Margaret) and Landon Oxendine-Ehrig; his grandchild Declan; and his partner Belinda Oxendine. Family holidays, visits with lifelong friends, and traveling to Europe to connect with relatives in Spain and Germany were especially important to him.
An avid sports fan, Thomas held season tickets to Texans games and found joy in cheering on his favorite teams. He was also a talented golfer who enjoyed playing rounds with his son Bryton. Thomas is survived by his parents Paul and Marisa Ehrig; children Bryton Ehrig (Margaret) and Landon Oxendine-Ehrig; siblings Paul Ehrig (Cindy), Elena Barilli (Richard), and Luisa Ehrig; partner Belinda Oxendine; as well as countless nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends who will forever hold him close in their hearts.
