Thomas Allen Turruviate, 75, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on November 4, 2025, at Northeast Methodist Hospital surrounded by loved ones.
Born on October 30, 1950, Thomas proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He carried a deep sense of honor for his service and the men he served alongside. His exposure to Agent Orange during that time led to health challenges later in life, and these challenges eventually claimed his life. During his life, he studied to be a speech pathologist, taught GED classes, and worked in many sales positions throughout his life, including owning his own company.
Thomas is survived by his daughter, Kassandra Levay, and her husband David; his grandchildren Porchia Pridemore (married to Michael Pridemore) and William Levay (engaged to Sara Pieper); and his great-granddaughter Rayleigh Pridemore. He is survived by his son, James Seal and his wife (Katy). James had two children, Robert and Isabella with his first wife, Emily Cleghorn, and has one child, Eleanor, with his second wife. Tom is also survived by his stepson David Jones. His cousins, Allen Ray and Doug Harrison also survived him, along with their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Reba Fox and Tomas Turruviate, and by his sister Christella Moore.
Thomas was married twice, to Karen Seal and Jane Gibson, and though those marriages ended, he remained grateful for the family connections that endured.
Known for his sharp wit and love of a good poker game, Thomas could often be found with a deck of cards in hand and a grin that said he was holding a winning hand. He dreamed of visiting Las Vegas one day—a trip he often joked would be "for research purposes only." He loved western movies and western music. He was an avid reader, often in a coffee shop with a book in his hand, content to read for hours.
He maintained lifelong friendships that began in childhood, and those friends, along with family, made sure to visit and share memories with him before his passing.
Thomas will be remembered for his humor and stubbornness with which he lived his life. His family and friends will miss him deeply but take comfort knowing he is now at peace.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date to honor his life and service.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Medina County Democratic party.
