A beloved husband, father and friend, Timothy C. Hess, of
Nellysford, VA passed away peacefully on November 26,
2025 with his family present. He was 76.
Tim was born on October 11, 1949 in Cincinnati, Ohio and
raised in St. Petersburg, Florida by Curt and Joan Hess. From
an early age, Tim loved the freedom and beauty found in
nature, especially when fishing the waters of the Gulf of
Mexico with his grandfather, Bob Hess. He attended Milligan
College, and upon graduating, began his career at Sea Pines
Resort in Hilton Head, SC.
In 1975, Tim relocated to Nelson County to open
Wintergreen Resort, working first as Food and Beverage
Director for the nascent community, before transitioning to
real estate and development. It was at Wintergreen that Tim
met the love of his life, Lynne, and they raised three children
together. Over the next five decades, Tim thrived as an
agent, broker, developer, and Managing Partner of the
Wintergreen Real Estate Co, and later as Co-Founder and
Managing Partner of Conservation+.
An avid fly fisherman, outdoorsman, and gardener, Tim
delighted in new experiences, travel, and connecting people
from all walks of life. He is fondly remembered as a gentle
and loving husband, father, and grandfather, a thoughtful
community builder, and encouraging mentor to many— with
a quintessential 'twinkle' in his eye for new projects both
large and small.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Lynne; son
Greg Hess and wife Holly Laurent; daughter Lauren Hess
Weaver and husband Jason Weaver; son Paul Hess;
granddaughters Heidi, Isla and Anna Weaver. He was
preceded in death by his father, Carl Curtis Hess, and
mother, Joan Hess.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday,
April 25, 2026 at the Carriage House at Oak Ridge Estate --address is 2382 Oak Ridge Road, Arrington, VA 22922 . A reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the
family requests memorial donations be made to the Nelson
County Community Development Foundation
(https://nccdf.org) which benefits low- and moderate-
income citizens of Nelson County.
