Timothy Newton Humphreys

Timothy "Tim" Humphreys left this world peacefully, December 5, 2025, in the company of his loving wife of 43 years, Mary Jo (Segars), and his faithful chocolate labs, Josie and Cooper. It was on that same evening, only a few hours earlier, that he had happily celebrated the occasion of his 74th birthday with friends and family.

The devoted son of Newt and Faye Humphreys, Tim was born in Houston and, later, moved to the Austin area, finally settling in Leander where he and Mary Jo lived for 32 years. Athletic and outdoorsy, he grew up hunting, fishing, and playing football. As a young man, raising dogs became a passion for Tim and he had a lifelong string of canine friends (as well as a skunk and a stray cat named Tommy Lee Jones) to show for it. He and his yellow lab, Court, often volunteered at Therapy Pet Pals in Austin.

In 1970, Tim graduated from Sidney Lanier High School, and matriculated at Sam Houston University, completing his undergraduate degree in 1974. Entering law enforcement as his chosen profession, he retired from the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission in 2008, after twenty-two years of dedicated service. His retirement years were happily spent traveling, and he and Mary Jo covered the globe from Machu Picchu to Kill Devil Hills, as well as numerous National Parks. He loved camping, RVing, hunting, fishing, skiing, gardening, working in the yard, and raising an annual bumper crop of pecans. Tim's nuts were the envy of all!

Sadly, the debilitating effects of Parkinsonism had, of late, slowed Tim a step or two but did not dim his thorough enjoyment of friends, family, music, laughter and 25,000 miles of travel during the last 14 months of his life. He leaves behind Mary Jo, as well as many cousins, among them David Anderson (Leander), and his nephews Josh Avera (Keller) and Seth Campbell (Lockhart) along with many other cousins, nieces, and nephews.

There will be a "Going, Going, Gone Party!" to celebrate Tim's life.
