Timothy Roy Moffatt passed away on February 2, 2026, in Kanchanaburi, Thailand, at the age of 66 after a quiet struggle with cancer. He was cremated at Thewa Sangkharam Temple in a traditional Thai ceremony.
Tim was born on November 20, 1959, in Riverside, California to James Ralph Moffatt and Ruby Patricia Hughes. He grew up in Riverside, California, where he graduated from Ramona High School in 1977.
He later lived in San Clemente, California, before moving to Thailand in the 1990s, where he spent much of the rest of his life.
Tim devoted his life to preserving language and culture. Through his nonprofit organization, Drum Education and Cultural Heritage Outreach, Inc., he worked to document and support the Karen language and culture. Through Drum Publications, he published books and educational materials designed to preserve and promote the Karen language for future generations.
Tim was preceded in death by his parents, James Ralph Moffatt and Ruby Patricia Moffatt Hughes, and by his sister, Bonnie Lynne Nichols.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Dr. Jimminy Moffatt; his brother, John Moffatt; his sisters, Pat Ramey and Suzanne Cloud; many nieces and nephews; and countless friends around the world.
Tim will be remembered for his love of travel, adventure, and hockey, and for the life he built connecting people and cultures across continents.
