She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Vanessa Marie McClain and Kassandra Fernandez, as well as her husband, Lazaro Fernandez. Vachel's nurturing spirit extended far beyond her immediate family—she was a mentor and friend to many who found comfort in her presence and guidance.
Vachel was preceded in death by her mother Esta Marie Bartlett, her father Dennis Neal Vinson, and her brother Corey Bartlett. Their memories live on through the values and love she carried forward in her own life.
A devoted Methodist, Vachel held church close to her heart. Though she chose not to speak openly about religion or politics, her actions reflected a deep moral compass rooted in kindness and service. She had an extraordinary ability to see the good in everyone. Whether it was a person struggling or a broken toy left behind, Vachel believed everything—and everyone—deserved care and a second chance.
Her love of reading was ever-present; she was rarely without a book tucked nearby. Fantasy and science fiction were among her favorite genres—worlds where imagination soared and hope endured. This passion for storytelling mirrored the way she approached life: with wonder, empathy, and an open heart.
Vachel also found joy on the soccer field—not just as a coach but as a guiding force for young players who looked up to her as both mentor and friend. Her leadership extended beyond strategy; she taught resilience, teamwork, and compassion through every practice and game.
A memorial service celebrating Vachel's life was held at Monroe county memorial chapel,Forsyth, Georgia,December 15, 2025.
