Vaun Bethers, 76, of St. George, UT, left this world on Friday, January 9, 2026, after a short, but valiant fight against infection that had afflicted his body.

Born January 30, 1949, in Heber City, UT, he was the sixth child of Dean and Arthella Bethers. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout and attended Wasatch High School where he developed friendships that would impact the rest of his life, including Betty Gay Witt and Cheryl Christensen. He was active in athletics and student government.

In 1967 he and his High School Sweetheart, Betty Gay Witt, graduated from Wasatch High and enrolled in BYU. They were married and sealed together forever in the Salt Lake City Temple on November 17th. This began their journey of over 45 years. Together they would bring 4 children into the world (Pam, Chad, Kevin, and David) and impact all they met as they moved from Orem, to Bountiful, to Logan, and finally to St. George. His greatest love was his family. While he used every opportunity to instill in his children his testimony of his Savior and his solid work ethic, he did his best to balance his life to make time to play. Whether it was a rousing game of Pit or Rummikub or fun at Bear Lake or on the boat at Hyrum Dam, he was always about making memories.

After graduating from BYU with a degree in Electrical Engineering, he started his career in electrical utilities, serving as Director of the Power and Light departments of both Bountiful and Logan Cities as well as Manager for Dixie Escalante Rural Electric Association. He was responsible for building and maintaining multiple substations, diesel and hydro-electrical generation plants, as well as power distribution systems. He served on many regional electrical association boards. He later went on to found Bethers Technology & Development, a private company providing home automation and security in the St George area.

After the sudden passing of Betty Gay in 2013, a mutual classmate reached out to Vaun and offered her condolences. This friendship evolved into courtship as Cheryl Christensen and Vaun were blessed to find love again. They were married and sealed in the Mount Timpanogos Temple on January 25, 2014. They enjoyed a special relationship as sweethearts and companions, bringing together a posterity of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren whom they loved with all their hearts.

Among his many family ties, Vaun held a very sweet relationship with Cheryl's daughter, Pam Giles. Their bond was built on a foundation of innocence and fun. Cheryl, Pam and Vaun loved their daily games around the table never knowing if Vaun would start falling asleep and win.

As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he followed the example of His beloved Savior, Jesus Christ in devoting his life to serving others around him. He served in various positions from Primary Teacher to Ward Missionary to Bishop in the Logan 25th Ward, as well as the Cache Valley Area Transient Bishop. He rejoiced when he was able to finally serve as a Church Missionary with his wife, Cheryl, in 2015. They were assigned to the Heber Valley Girls' Camp.

Vaun is survived by his wife, Cheryl Christensen Bethers; 4 children, Pam Johnson (Brian) of Idaho Falls, ID, Chad Bethers (Angela) of Hyrum, UT, Kevin Bethers of Richmond, UT and David Bethers (Brittney) of St. George, UT; 22 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and the many family members that Cheryl brought into the marriage that he loved as his own including 5 children, Rob Giles (Sam) of Heber, UT, Phil Giles (Marci) of St. George, UT, Pam Giles of St. George, UT, Kim Pectol (Matt) of Provo, UT, and Michelle Giles of Heber, UT; 28 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Dale Bethers (Diane) of Georgetown, ID and Linda Hansen (Dale) of South Jordan, UT, and brother in laws, Richard Leckie of South Jordan, UT, Kim Witt (DeAnn) of Meridian, ID and Leo Witt (Linda) of Heber, UT. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty Gay; and many other cherished family members.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 16, 2026, at the Bloomington Hills LDS Chapel located at 750 E Fort Pierce Dr. A viewing will be held prior to services from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the same location. Graveside services will be held at the Heber City Cemetery on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 12 noon.
