Vera Cale Henze
August 13, 1941 – April 13, 2026

Vera Cale Henze, lovingly known by many names to those who loved her, passed away on April 13, 2026, in Floresville, Texas, at the age of 84.

She was born on August 13, 1941, in Calallen, Texas, and spent the majority of her life in San Antonio, where she built a life centered around faith, family, and strength. To her family and close friends, she was affectionately known as “Bitsy.” To her children, she was “Mama,” and to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she was “Granny”—a name spoken with love and warmth.

Vera was preceded in death by her parents, J.D. Cale and Cora Lee Cale; her sisters, Billie Jo Cale and Linda Cale; her daughter, Cynthia Kay Henze; and her beloved husband, Leroy F. Henze, who passed just last year.

She is survived by her children, Diana J. Kidd, Joanne L. Garcia (Mike), and John R. Henze (Rachel). She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Derek A. Garcia (Janie), Kristen L. Robles (Dakota), Lindsey J. Maldonado (Peter), Chad M. Garcia (Arami), Stephen A. Henze, and Catherine A. Henze. She held a special place in her heart for her great-grandchildren, Cooper L. Smith and Maitlyn C. Smith, whom she loved dearly. Her legacy will continue through a great-grandson on the way, expected in September, whom she so hoped to meet.

Vera found joy in life’s simple, meaningful moments. She loved to cook—and did it well—bringing her family together around the table. She enjoyed her soap operas, playing games, and spending time feeding her birds.

Vera’s life was defined by her devotion to her family. She was strong, steady, and full of life, bringing comfort, laughter, and presence to those around her. Whether through a home-cooked meal, a familiar show playing in the background, or simply being there when she was needed most, she created a home filled with love that will be felt for generations.

She will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever loved.
